Your zippers are the worst in all camping gears I have bought. It comes loose easily enough but over time this has put lots of little holes in that flap. I have the JW-7607 which is a 2-3 (read that as two) person tent. I have had it for years and am thrilled with it. It has held up to kids camping in the living room and back yard, many camping trips to desert / forest / lake environments and even survived a bear “attack” with only a small tear.
From a positive perspective, the lightweight design increases portability which is certainly important in carrying the tent to its intended location. From a negative perspective, the weight is indicative of a lack of high quality material and components used throughout the shelter. The included carrying bag does not have wheels to aid in transportation, but at only 29 lbs. We don’t find that to be a noteworthy drawback as the nylon handles and shoulder strap work just fine in carrying the tent. The legs are locked into place with old school metal push button locks, something you won’t see on many modern pop up tents now-a-days. These push locks get very difficult to use over time, especially if the tent is used on the beach and exposed to sand and saltwater, causing rust build up.

It was a little challenging putting it up the first time but still took about 10 minutes. The frame seems very sturdy and the top is a decent thickness. Bought to use the 4-person connected and figured it’d be better to do a 10’x20′ canopy instead of 2 10’x10′ canopies. The height of the inside leaves you in awe of the amount of room that’s under the roof. My son is 6’2″ and standing on his tippy toes can barely touch the center of the frame at the lowest height.
Overall, we think the ozark trail canopy serves its intended purpose – a value brand 10×10 instant shelter that caters to price conscious consumers looking for an affordable shade option. And compared to some of the tents in the EZ-Up lineup, it sells for almost a 70% discount. One could, in theory, purchase a new Ozark canopy every year (which they might need to!) and still come out ahead over the years vs. purchasing a more expensive alternative. Regarding best use, you have already seen it, this is an incredibly versatile product with many variants of using it, as a 4-person tent, as a 8-person tent, as a screenhouse, etc. You can use it as an annex protected space next to your family camping tent.
Regarding the weight, this system is heavy, but there are many elements here and this is a very stable structure. This is a car camping tent so the weight is not really a big issue.
