First, I started by spreading a teaspoon of flour onto the kitchen floor, right up against the skirting board. Running the cleaner through on vacuum mode, it picked up most of it when running the head along the skirting. Bissell says that the edge performance is 60% better here than on the CrossWave shark cordless Cordless – and it would appear so; there was just a small trace of dirt left to be collected. It also works well to pick up pet hair and bulky dry debris without losing any suction. I also appreciate that due to it’s compact size, it cleans small areas just as well as large areas.
It works well at freshening up carpets, including rubber floor mats, while also cleaning multiple types of hard flooring. Bissell provides 1 litre of cleaning fluid in the box (its multi-surface cleaner) and you can buy more for £12.99 a pop. Bissell also sells formulations for pet and wood (both £12.99 each). While the cleaning width is shorter on this model, the Cordless Max has a thicker floor brush, allowing greater depth for absorbing dirt. Impressive cleaning and vacuuming performance, the thicker roller will see you quickly cover floors. Its high price means that those who don’t need the convenience of cordless power should seek out cheaper, plug-in alternatives.
You can absolutely use the bissell crosswave as just a vacuum. It works well to clean messes on hard or soft surfaces by vacuuming and mopping, but it can be used as just a vacuum. Since you can’t configure it as a handheld vacuum, it isn’t suitable for cleaning pet hair from furniture. It also lacks a HEPA filter, and some allergens can escape from its exhaust. The shark cordless Max is good for cleaning bare floors. It easily clears away pet hair as well as small and bulky debris on this surface type, with no significant loss in suction performance as its dustbin fills up. Its mopping function is also quite effective in dealing with dried-on dirt and debris.
You can just pull out this filter and throw away the dirt, pouring just dirty water away down the sink, without fear of causing a blockage. Once you release the trigger, the floor cleaner then sucks up the dirty water (and any other debris) into the waste tank. The tank has a capacity of 0.55 litres, so you’ll likely have to empty it a couple of times for each full tank of cleaning solution. The water tank was pretty dirty after cleaning my area rugs so I know it did its job. My real highlight with the Crosswave vacuum is the mop for hard surfaces. The BISSELL CrossWave Cordless Max does a good job dealing with stains when used with the Multi-Surface cleaning formula.
