Q Series Gas Grills

A final note to all coastal dwellers or poolside grillers, wash and rinse down the exterior surfaces regularly to keep your warranty valid. I’m embarrassed at how long it’s taken me to publish this review, but here I am, four years after the Weber Q redesign, dragging my feet to compile all of my notes. If you like to cook with really high temperatures—I’m talking over 500 degrees—you might have trouble getting there with only one burner. We purchased the Weber Q 2200 so our review could put it to the test in her kitchen. The Weber Q 2200 Gas Grill makes it easy and convenient to grill on the go, but it’s spacious enough for everyday home use, as well. We independently research, test, review, and recommend the best products—learn more about our process.

As one of the renowned brands, Weber Grills have been the go-to option for many users. They were not only one of the first names in outdoor cooking, but their grills have also stood the test of time. Within just a few minutes of preheating, this efficient grill is already pushing 500-degree temperatures.

During the summer, I grill out most days, so this grill will get a good workout. This is the 2nd weber charcoal grill 1200 gas grill that I have had and I am extremely satisfied with its performance. Someone must have like my first one also as it was stolen. The Q Series grills are made from cast aluminum and heavy duty plastic which makes them immune to rust when used in coastal areas and near swimming pools. The Weber Traveler is a new portable gas grill that is a legitimate alternative to the Weber Q series.

This is not to say that it cannot be controlled, but that it will likely take a bit of a learning curve until you figure out how to do so. Temperature control tends to run away if this grill still has room to heat, i.e., it has yet to achieve its maximum temperature. Still, our testers were able to control the heat of this grill better than other models.

We rarely recommend products we haven’t tested and we never recommend products that we don’t love. Often, but not always, if you purchase portable bbq a product after clicking a link on our site we get a finder’s fee. We recommend products based on quality and price, not on fees.

There is a griddle plate available that will turn half of your grill into a griddle. It’s great for those who like to cook breakfast or want to whip up some caramelized onions or bacon for burgers. However, Weber warns that only one griddle plate can be used at a time, as using two will likely cut off airflow to the burner, kill the flames and cause a propane buildup. There is also a very durable porcelain coating covering the grates.

From putting it together to actually using the grill, it has been a wonderful experience all around. And, while I will be using my whole grills for heavy duty grilling and smoking, this has earned its spot in my collection. In general, though, this gas grill is pretty easy to use. After a quick read through of the manual, even first timers shouldn’t have too much trouble figuring how it works. If you are looking for a temperature higher than this, though, you may find the Weber Q 2200 faltering. Of course, this is true of bigger and more expensive grills.

But it is expensive to run a website with more than 2,000 pages and we don’t have a big corporate partner to subsidize us. Webers are not cheap, but when you consider that they last decades, the price is easy to justify. Many some cheap grills fall apart after three years or so. These small cookers make travel easy, but obviously limit the amount and size of what can be cooked. They may be used as a table top grill or mounted to a fold out stand with two legs, two wheels and tool hooks.

The Weber Traveler portable gas grill didn’t disappoint and I think this a solid value at $325. It’s a sturdily built unit that comes together in a snap and is completely user-friendly to boot. If you’ve never grilled a single day in your life, I still don’t think you have any problems assembling and operating this grill. The Traveler got and stayed nice and hot and controlling the temperature — while not perfectly precise — was fine for the type of grilling most people do. It’s also large enough to be your permanent, everyday home grill.

The cooking surface is similar in size to grills found in many campgrounds. We purchased the Q1200 on the recommendation of other campers. We have a larger Weber grill for home use and felt good about the quality of Weber products based on our past experience. I recommend this grill for couple or small families, especially campers. 1200 gas grill features 2 large size fold-out tables, 8500 btu, split porcelain enameled cast iron grates, 189 sq.in.
