I called Weber they recommended I loosen all, the screws so I could try and get the can to fit that way…how ridiculous. Paid to much to have to go through that eventide you want to change the propane can. I wholeheartedly recommend the 1200 portable grill.
The Weber Q 1000 is the basic model of the Weber Q portable series. But don’t let the word “basic” discourage you from buying this model. It’s considered a staple in the Weber world and is a great portable propane grill to own. The Q 1000 features a rust resistant cast aluminum lid and body, making the grill lightweight, but still durable. The ignition is an electronic push-to-start, so firing up the grill for a cookout is quick and easy.
Instead of just ordering a pizza, he and his coworkers decided to have a parking lot cookout at lunchtime, and I offered to let them use the Weber to test its portability. He packed up the grill in the bed of his truck, and while he was surprised at its weight—which is more than 40 pounds—he really liked that it felt sturdy and durable. Using the grill, he was able to cook easily for himself and four coworkers, and they all agreed that the burgers and hot dogs came out great.
I’m not even sure that I would have, except that I still own a Weber Q grill. I feel like I’d be doing a disservice if I didn’t give you the most accurate review possible. Very little has changed since I reviewed two Weber Q grills over seven years ago. A slight model name change and some cosmetic updates are the only differences between the old and new grills. The Q line of grills still have all of the same features, the same specifications and most importantly, they all operate the same and produce the same results.
The Traveler is not much easier or more difficult to clean than your standard gas grill. There’s a drip tray to catch the worst of it and you can easily remove the grill grates to clean the inside of the firebox or hull of the grill. The grates are best taken to the sink or a hose for rinsing. The heavy duty cast iron grate is designed to work in partnership with the single burner and funnels grease away from the burner towards the center of the grill.
I am not going to give exact prices in here because that changes on a regular basis. However, in general terms, the combined cost of the Q2200 and the cart is about $50 more expensive than the Traveler. Grill is attached to the cart for quick & easy setup. I have been cooking on both a Traveler and a couple of ’s for months now and wanted to share my thoughts on a Head to Head comparison.
It is important to control the temperature off-the-bat if you plan on cooking more on the low-and-slow side. We weigh everything that goes into our RV and our Q1200 is a bit less than 23 lbs without the propane bottle. The weight that weber genesis 2 everyone seems to quote in their reviews is lbs and that is the shipping weight, not the actual weight of the grill. I’ve read several accounts from owners stating that the grill runs hot regardless of the burner control setting.
That’s not uncommon with grills but if you’re looking for pinpoint low-and-slow cooking, this might not be the product for you. Once assembled, it was time to give the Weber a go at its most weber charcoal grill important duty. At 1,300 BTUs, the Weber has a good punch of power for a “portable” grill so I expected some serious heat. The ignitor worked and the grill lit on the first attempt.
