Facilities should make surgical masks or higher-level respirators (e.g., N95s, KN95s, KF94s) with good fit available at all times to any residents and staff who would like to use them based on their personal preference. In counties at a High COVID-19 Community Level, agencies must require individuals to wear masks in federal facilities, regardless of vaccination status and consistent with CDC and Task Force guidance on mask-wearing. Masks are not required in federal facilities in counties at a Medium or Low level. Respirators fit closely on the face and filter out droplets and particles from the air you breathe in, including the virus that causes COVID-19. They also prevent most of the droplets and particles that you breath, cough, or sneeze out from reaching other people and making them sick.
Over the past two years, mask makers have had ample opportunities to improve. We liked Hedley & Bennett’s masks last year, and WIRED reviewer Matt Jancer and I both like Medical masks the latest version . Disposable masks are affordable and easily found through large retailers. But it can be hard to independently verify their efficacy or provenance.

Export restrictions could discourage these foreign companies from investing, denying the recipient country the benefits from foreign firms bringing the capital and know-how to create local capacity in the production of medical supplies. First, they prevent some countries with no production capacity from gaining access to masks.
But after a tester took it out on a run, the fabric, along with the filter, became completely and uncomfortably drenched. Admittedly, conditions had reached a humid 90 degrees Fahrenheit that day; even so, with the material so porous, we had expected more sweat wicking. We also wished that the filter pocket stretched horizontally across the mask for added filtration efficiency. By leaving on an overnight face mask, the formula can continue to absorb into the skin and help improve appearance in the morning.
