Dyson Debuts First Robot Vacuum Cleaner, the Eye 360

The ‘bot can climb up to 15mm with those treads, but the combination of high-level suction and nylon bristles also makes it well-suited to Japan’s tatami mats — lots of nooks, but also relatively delicate fibers. Which is convenient, shark cordless as the 360 Eye will be coming to Japan first, in the spring of 2015. And barring Dyson’s love of launching things in Japan, there’s some solid reasoning for it. “The country adopts to new technology faster than anyone else,” he said.

While theDyson 360 Eyehas fantastic suction, suction alone, cannot be the only thing driving the purchase of a product. A couple of strikes against the 690 model, in terms of usability, includes the lack of Memory Mapping or Digital Cleaning reports. The rubberized brushroll system uses two brushrolls that spin irobot vacuum cleaner in alternate directions, helping to prevent tangles without preventing suction. Unlike the 800 or 900 Series Roomba, theRoomba 690uses a bristle-style brushroll, instead of the dual rubberized brushroll. It also uses the same spinning side brush that the Roombas are known for to help clean edges and corners.

The price it’s in the upper echelons of the robo cleaner price range but you do know that you’re paying for tried and tested technology with the Dyson brand, and the cleaning performance is superb. What makes the Dyson 360 Heurist different from other robot vacuums? Dyson engineers developed the 360 Heurist with heuristic – or learning – abilities. This means based upon previous cleaning sessions the vacuum will continue to better understand the layout of the room and map obstacles in the home allowing for more intelligent and efficient cleans in the future. While the vacuum is running it uses a top-mounted fish eye camera lens to create a 360˚ panoramic view and incorporates SLAM technology to have a continuous view of where it’s been and where it still needs to clean. When encountering dark or dimly lit areas during evenings, night time, or under furniture, a LED light illuminates the camera to ensure proper mapping and cleaning is still achieved.

Dysonalso offers an autonomous robot vacuum, but there’s only one model—the Dyson 360 eye. This model is a high-end robot vacuum that offers many of the same features and stats of the Roomba line-up, but is quite a bit more expensive. TheRoomba 980orRoomba 960can tackle both of these jobs, making it an excellent pick for bissell crosswave cordless a top-dollar robot vacuum. Dyson makes a fantastic vacuum, there’s no doubt about that, but it is possible that robot vacuums are simply outside of the Dyson wheelhouse. There are few flaws with the robot itself, which vacuums well and neatly empties itself when it’s finished, but the mopping function is a bit basic.

More advanced Wi-Fi equipped robot vacuums tend to only require Wi-Fi for certain features linked to a companion app on your phone. These include scheduling via your phone and the vacuum letting you know it has become stuck. While the battery life and suction has improved greatly, this is not a fast cleaner, and if you have a large, cluttered house it will almost certainly need a halfway recharge before completing the job.

It will map your house and recognizes every space, so you can set no-go zones for the vacuum cleaner to skip during its cleaning session. It takes a while to get accustomed to the Roomba J7+, the $850 robot vacuum, and the Braava Jet M6, the $450 robot mop, both from iRobot. The devices rely on cameras, sensors and artificial intelligence to create a map of your home. Once a map is created, you can label each room and tell the robots to clean specific areas or to clean everywhere. Dyson’s laser-equipped vacuum is one of the latest examples of cleaning tech, products that are designed to make our household hygiene as painless and efficient as possible.

TheDyson V8is stick vacuum that offers a 40 minute run time, doubles as a 2-in-1 , and offers cordless convenience as you clean. It has a 0.54 L dust bin (about 40% larger than the Roomba dust bin) and weighs under 6 lbs. This series includes cordless stick vacuums, that also double as 2-in-1 handheld vacuums.

“We’re also ‘Big in Japan’ — the largest vacuum brand in Japan, and this country is the largest market for robots.” No arguments there. It’s also a proficient cleaner, with a two-roller system that does a good job of scooping up dirt and dust while avoiding hair tangles. If you want a robot that also empties itself, check out the Roomba j7+, which is the same robot but comes with a charging station that empties the collection bin after every clean. With 1,500Pa of suction power, the Eufy RoboVac is pretty powerful for the money, and it’s reasonably quiet, too.
