We always look forward to these visits because we often get to preview new EGO products. This trip was no exception, and we got our hands on the latest EGO Carbon Fiber String Trimmer with an Auto-Feeding Powerload Head . It’s the only technology of its kind and removes a major pain point in reloading string. We’ve now officially reviewed this battery-powered trimmer and even compared it to other models in our latest best battery-powered weedeater roundup . Pro Tool Reviews is a successful online publication that has been providing tool reviews and industry news since 2008. In today’s world of Internet news and online content, we found that more and more professionals researched a large majority of their major power tool purchases online.
Innovation is great, but if the string doesn’t cut, the rest doesn’t matter. EGO rates their latest string trimmer for both 0.080″ and 0.095″ line and it comes pre-spooled with 0.095″. We recommend you stay with the thicker line. The Powerload trimmer handles it well and you get better cutting and durability. What’s not clear yet is whether the new PowerLoad multi-head string trimmer attachment will work with the original EGO powerhead.
I bought this 15″ model when it first came out as initial reviews suggested they finally designed a working head. I use it without the guard as that gives me much more precise control . If you are careful to always work opposite the string rotation direction, it’s not a problem. The trimmer I reviewed comes with a 2.5Ah battery and charger.
Nobody wants a weak and inefficient power tool. Items over 100lbs shipped via semi-truck, be sure to select “Lift Gate” to lower the product to the ground curbside. Remote area surcharges may apply, see our full shipping policy for more details.
I’d left the trimmer on the ground and I accidentally stepped on just the plastic trigger snapping it off right at the housing. No problem I thought, I’ll order a replacement. Opened it up, removed the plastic trigger, looked online for the part number and found out that Ego wouldn’t sell the part to me.
By the way, if and when I call support on anything I have reviewed, I do so anonimously to avoid any special treatment. I’m interested in battery powered lawn equipment. However, there are a few issues I still have with them.
The bumper spins separately from the head itself. This reduces wear on the part and is also helpful for folks who prefer to slide the head across the ground while trimming. We noticed that the head “rolls” very well, offering less resistance against the grass. All original manufacturers names and part numbers are used for identification purposes only, and we are in no way implying that our products are original equipment parts.
