Did a lot of research before buying into their system because I have some Dewalt 20V stuff but I’m not a fan of their OPE. Makita would have been my second choice for home use. This tear down review of the Ego blower highlights the option . The long service time is a well-known issue within the community.

I say temporary, because you have a 90-day return period , that you’re just going to return for a refund after getting your original tool back. Tool-free adjustments sometimes loosen up over time and can be a hassle to retighten, and so long-term the 4-screw shaft clamp will work just fine. I jammed the motor a couple of times, and it started right back up each time. I’d say that I abused the tool, and kept it running nearly continuously for a little over two hours. My three 5.0Ah batteries could have kept me going for even longer, but I ran out of line. During Testing, I didn’t make much use of the variable speed control.
This trimmer churns through thick grasses and stubborn brush with ease. This had our testers holding the trimer in awkward, un-ergonomic positions when doing smaller jobs. If you want a string trimmer to power through thick brush, this option works great. For cleaning up grassy yards after mowing, though, we advise you to look elsewhere. EGO parts are designed specifically for your EGO POWER+ products and offer the highest quality, performance and value. Great tool except the engineers who signed off on the variable speed trigger must not use string trimmers much. The new trimmer is not really variable speed like the old model. The new one is basically two speeds – fast and faster with nothing much in between.
I bought this as the combo with the blower. The blower worked very well for what it is. The weed wacker on tbe other habd is the worst ive ever used. I wanted to slam it on the ground within the first five minutes. I tried several times even chabged to string for a new roll. Youll make it ten feet and the line disapears inside the head.
It is attachment capable and they make an edger and hedge trimmer and blower attachments for it. As of now, I’m pretty sold on this EGO cordless string trimmer. I’ve been a fan of EGO cordless power tools, and this one is no different. For lighter jobs that will make up the majority of most homeowners’ need for a string trimmer, this model is overpowered. There are so many tools you need to have at your disposal to maintain your lawn well, and they can take up a ton of space. Multi-Head systems are a great way to have the right tools and reduce your overall equipment costs.

The sturdy build quality, indestructible shaft and quiet brushless motor make this trimmer—dare I say it—fun to use. I know my wife is intimidated by gas powered equipment, and I imagine it’s easier to get kids involved with electric stuff as well. With proper care/maintenance I expect 10 years out of a trimmer. I don’t expect the current iterations of battery operated tools will last 10 years, without factoring for the batteries which probably won’t make it that long either. I’d prefer to have the attachment system and a split boom. The shaft for the end part comes out of a coupler.
