That’s why I like Ozark Trail – their tents provide strong protection against wind, rain and sun across the board. Certainly it’s not the best weather protection money can buy, but for summer campers and those will be avoiding bad storms, they will hold up just fine. Ozark Trail makes tents of all sizes, but we’ve found larger family camping tents to be their forte. This 16’ x 16’ instant cabin tent can sleep 12 and offers 3 separate rooms.
Keep in mind most of the Ozark Trail tents are designed for larger groups and family campers. Considering there’s no vestibule space, we wouldn’t recommend this tent for ten users. It’s best for 5 to 6 campers with luggage for the best comfort levels. Users loved the excellent ventilation that the tent offers. It’s mostly made from mesh and there are large windows.
In terms of wind resistance though, these all do well, and this is mainly due to the aerodynamic nature of the dome. They all sit quite close to the ground, and both fibreglass and steel poles withstand a good amount of wind. Obviously, the steel frames in the 4p and 6p versions will be more robust, but fibreglass still does well for the smaller sizes. These aren’t meant for extremely rough back country camping, but they’re some of the best in the low to mid-range competition. Even the 4p and 6p can be used for backpacking and so on, but you should share the load with your camping buddies.
One of the largest complaints about Ozark Trail and other entry-level tents is their lack of durability. For example, many Ozark tents have an opening for an extension cord, so you can hook up to an electrical outlet outside your tent and run a cord inside. There’s a lot of information out there about Ozark Trail tents. You’ll want to use this tent somewhere that doesn’t get too hot, but also has little chance of rain. You’ve seen this tent on every influencer’s Instagram account.
This is especially unpleasant if your sleeping bag or pillow rubs up against the wall. Set up your tent (before your trip!) without the rainfly and follow the seam seal directions. You can add protection to your tent by using seam seal to secure the seams. This will give you more waterproofing and better secure your tent’s seams. The fly on this one has a roof vent plus a vestibule, so you’re getting excellent value here for a smaller size. They are designed more for families that are occasional campers than for backcountry enthusiasts.
Users also liked the fact all the rooms have separate entrances. All that’s required to put these tents together is laying the tent out flat and inserting the poles in the correct places. There are even EZ-up tents that are designed for the tent assembly-challenged. Note that these tents do not come with a footprint, which is a sheet to lay under the tent to prevent water from coming in from underneath.
