The 5.5-inch 1080p monitor, which attaches directly to the remote controller, has the DJI Go 4 app built right in. It’s more than twice as bright as conventional devices you would otherwise have to attach to the controller to view onscreen commands and imagery transmitted by the drone. The controller has a 5-hour battery life for a day of serious flying and recording. Sport mode is brand new and designed for experienced pilots, completely transforming the phantom 4 flying characteristics. To achieve this dramatic transformation, DJI turns off the obstacle avoidance system, updates various gain and expo settings, and allows the drone to dip into aggressive, 45-degree angled flight.

If it weren’t for DJI one-upping itself and releasing the Mavic series of drones, we would probably be talking about how small and portable the Phantom is compared to the competition. However, given the Mavic 2 Pro exists, the Pro doesn’t seem quite as compact. We purchased the DJI Phantom 4 Pro V. 2.0 so our expert reviewer could thoroughly test and assess it. The DJI Phantom 4 Pro V. 2.0 is a best in class drone that provides enough depth and features to suit amateurs and professionals alike. Like its predecessor, the Phantom 4 captures exceptional ultra HD video. New to the Phantom 4 is an ability for the camera to capture 120 frames-per-second at 1080p.

It certainly has its shortcomings as well and yes it is an aging quadcopter that has been overdue for a successor. The camera is for the most part unchanged from the Phantom 3 Professional’s excellent shooter. But DJI added a slow-motion option capturing 1080p at 120fps and it has improved the lens so there’s less chromatic aberration and better corner sharpness. It, too, is not removable, which means it can’t simply be upgraded or replaced. On the spec sheet the Mavic Pro offers a very similar set of capabilities to the Phantom 4. However, it comes in a smaller package that folds to become one of the most portable drones around.
The Plus model includes a built-in display on the remote control, otherwise, they are the same machine. DJI has released an update to this great drone, the DJI Pro V2.0 is updated in mostly the same way that the Mavic Pro Platinum improves over the original Mavic Pro. To be specific, new propellers and updated ESCs create more efficient and quieter flight.
It’s not the most user friendly set up, with several buttons taking you to the same menu, but I soon got used to it. Immediately after landing the , you’re able to review photos and videos on your iPad. That said, the photo/video integration of the DJI Go app is really good. Any footage you take with the Phantom 4 drone is stored on a Micro SD card inside the drone in full 4k glory . You can see the Phantom 4’s video footage downsized to 1080p in my short review below. When flying in lower light, it’s necessary to keep the ISO as low as possible and purposely underexpose the photo using the Manual settings.
The Phantom 4 might truly be the drone anyone can fly and it is certainly worth the money if you’ve got it. Still, for however polished the experience is, it might be too much of a good thing for absolute beginners. DJI’s top consumer drone is smart enough to practically fly itself while you concentrate on getting awesome aerial shots.
We could argue all day about the things that people choose to spend their money on and the various merits of whichever hobby. As far as we’re concerned, the Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 is absolutely worth $1,500. It easily feels like $1,500 worth of product and functionality, especially when you consider how easily you can spend $1,500 on a decent (not even high-end!) camera body without even a lens.
