DJI Phantom 4 Pro V 2.0 Review

Second, if you are just looking for a fun drone to bounce around the backyard, not really planning to take videos, the Phantom 3 standard at less than half the price of the dji fly is a smart move. Announced and released in August 2018, the two versions of the update to the Mavic Pro have some tricks up their sleeve. The DJI Mavic 2 Pro rocks a 1-inch camera sensor from Hasselblad, this 20MP shooter produces some of the best aerial footage we’ve seen from a drone under $2000. The DJI Mavic 2 Zoom, on the other hand, has the same size camera sensor as the Phantom 4, but the updated 100Mbps data rate and 2x optical zoom should give the Mavic drone the edge. 10.Can I download other apps onto the Phantom 4 Pro + remote controller display?

You are still very limited as to what you can achieve with the files in post, and even without any editing, the dynamic range of the image is certainly lacking. The video feed is responsive and great quality – it really is amazing that all this takes place in real time, often with the drone hundreds of feet away. The camera housing is suspended from the drone body via a gimble which serves to counteract the movement of the drone, providing incredibly smooth footage.

I put the controller in the hands of Adam Molina of Sound Guys, he’s flown, but is still a new pilot. It took no more than a minute for him to get the hang of it. Then I showed off and effortlessly landed the drone onto its case, wish I would have recorded that. Not a super car or a race car, just dji drones the kind of sporty car you and I can conceivably purchase on a modest budget. It is not super powerful, or super fast, but it’s more than enough to get out of control if you’re not careful. A single battery will net you up to 30 minutes of flight, but expect about 24 minutes in the air to be safe.

5.Does the Phantom 4 Pro + remote controller have a built-in loudspeaker and microphone? 3.Can I detach the integrated display from the Phantom 4 Pro + remote controller? 7.What are the main features of the Phantom 4 Pro camera lens? The Phantom 4 Pro uses a brand new camera lens optimized for aerial imaging, with an aperture range from F2.8 to F11 and a 24mm equivalent focal length. Tap a point on the display to focus at that point after switching from metering to focus modes.

This new sensor has a mechanical shutter, captures 20 MP images and bumps the maximum video bitrate from 60 to 100 Mbps. Just as the dji fly outperforms the best of the Phantom 3 line, the Phantom 4 Pro and Advanced outdo the standard Phantom 4. Multi-directional vision systems provide improved obstacle avoidance, speeds are higher and the battery lasts longer, but more than all this, the new drones have a far improved camera. The new Smart Return Home forms a map of its environment in real-time.

There is no question it produces superior imagery when compared to the Mavic Pro and other sub-$1000 drones. More than anything, the fact that this is a full 1-inch sensor sets the Phantom 4 Pro in a league of its own for drones under $2000. Responsive controls are key to a successful flight, as is the low latency FPV on either the built-in display of the Pro+ remote, or your mobile device on the normal Pro model. The DJI Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 allows you to stay airborne for up to 30 minutes with its Intelligent Flight Batteries. This means that it still offers you one of the best flight times of all DJI drones and means in practice that you have the time to position the drone exactly so to take the shot you had in mind. Or to try and capture complicated video shooting maneuvers again and again until you get it right.

Based on its altitude at the time of disconnection, the Phantom 4 Pro is also able to adjust its flight path to avoid obstacles it has seen during its flight. At takeoff, the Phantom 4 Pro will record the scene below and compare its recording with what it sees as it returns, for more precise landing. Three sets of dual vision sensors form a 6-camera navigation system that works constantly to calculate the relative speed and distance between the aircraft and an object. Forward – The aircraft follows the route at a constant speed with the camera facing in the direction of flight. The Phantom 4 Pro has perfect body design, super smooth flying and a top of the range camera stability.

Once landed, I find the machine spins up while shutting down the motors. This is no problem on the ground, but if you’ve landed on the case, it can be just enough to throw the drone over the side. This may be a calibration issue, or just our machine, but please be aware of it for dji drones your flights. When you think about drones, it’s possible that the first image that comes to mind is the iconic design of the DJI Phantom line. DJI knows it, continually iterating their Phantom drones to be some of the best high-end consumer class quadcopters on the market.

Return to Home mode is enabled automatically when the drone takes off, but it can also be set manually. This is one of the most important features you need to be aware of, as if it all goes wrong it will help to avoid ‘flyaways’. The Phantom 4’s new stockier design sees the old plastic body replaced with a sleek magnesium alloy, finished in glossy white. The camera and gimbal design are improved, and are better integrated into the body, making the whole setup feel more robust.
