This is an excellent tutorial of the Follow Me intelligent mode using ActiveTrack. Here we see an triathlete using the Phantom 4 Follow Me mode to check her running technique. TapFly Free – Lock the forward direction of the Phantom without locking the camera direction allowing it to turn as it flies. The Phantom 4 Pro V has an upgraded propulsion system with FOC sinusoidal driver ESCs and 9455S quick release propellers.
In 1987, the last of the Naval Reserve-operated F-4S aircraft were replaced by F-14As. The last Phantoms in service with the Navy were QF-4N and QF-4S target drones operated by the Naval Air Warfare Center at NAS Point Mugu, California. On 15 August 1990, 24 F-4G Wild Weasel Vs and six RF-4Cs were deployed to Shaikh Isa AB, Bahrain, for Operation Desert Storm. The F-4G was the only aircraft in the USAF inventory equipped for the Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses role, and was needed to protect coalition aircraft from Iraq’s extensive air defense system. The RF-4C was the only aircraft equipped with the ultra-long-range KS-127 LOROP (long-range oblique photography) camera, and was used for a variety of reconnaissance missions.
The Pro uses an all-new video camera with a 1-inch image sensor, 4K video recording at up to 60p, and 20MP Raw and JPG image capture. The 1-inch sensor size has proven to be a very capable format in compact cameras like the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III ($1,799.00 at DJI) . DJI rates the Phantom 4 Pro for 30 minutes of flight time, which is a figure calculated under ideal conditions. In more normal use, I found myself getting about 25 minutes of actual time in the air—landing with about 8 percent battery left, which is cutting things close.
This makes the Phantom 4 a worthwhile upgrade over the Phantom 3 Professional, and an even better choice for photographers who need a sturdy piece of kit that will deliver great results. Much of that stability comes from the Phantom 4 expanded array of downward cameras and sonar sensors. The Phantom 4 has double the number of downward facing cameras compared to the Phantom 3. This comes in handy indoors, which is one place the Phantom 4 is nothing short of incredible.
While it does not use Ocusync, it is also rated for connectivity up to 4.3 miles as well, just like the Mavic Pro. As far as drones go, the DJI Phantom line really is the iconic design of the industry. The dji fly Pro+ was as good as it gets for more than a year after the quadcopter was announced. This enables you to fly without GPS stabilization, but it’s a feature that only seasoned pilots should tackle. DJI has continued to push the capabilities of its drones forward, announcing the Pro ($1,499) and Pro+ ($1,799.00 at DJI) only months after dropping the superb Phantom 4 ($1,799.00 at DJI) on the world. The Pro has a 1-inch image sensor with four times the surface area of the Phantom 4’s camera. It captures 4K footage at up to 60fps, and shoots 20MP Raw and JPG photos. It’s also our Editors’ Choice, as the more expensive Pro+ configuration shows that an integrated tablet can have as many drawbacks as advantages. It’s the fastest Phantom so far, capable of reaching top speeds of 45 miles per hour.
If you’re looking for the best still photo quality, and the ability to push and pull your RAW files in post production, the Phantom 4 probably isn’t for you. Immediately after landing the Phantom 4, you’re able to review photos and videos on your iPad. Anything higher than ISO 100 and the quality quickly degrades, and this is especially apparent when you start zooming in. Photographers to shooting at 20mm will know how close you need to be to your subject for it to come anywhere near being dominant within the frame. Personally, I’m not a fan of the GoPro’s field of view which is verging on fish-eye. The 20mm field of view of the Phantom 4 strikes me as just right for its usage.
The camera is for the most part unchanged from the Phantom 3 Professional’s excellent shooter. But DJI added a slow-motion option capturing 1080p at 120fps and it has improved the lens so there’s less chromatic aberration and better corner sharpness. It, too, is not removable, which means it can’t simply be upgraded or replaced. The Phantom 4 Pro and GSPro have been around for a long time now and there have been few updates — but that’s not a bad thing.
As of 2018, DJI controlled an estimated 74% of the global consumer drone market, with no other company controlling more than 5%.
