Unfortunately, this combination isn’t working out very well due to a bug or incompatibility that’s preventing DJI apps from performing as intended, and it’s leaving some devices virtually unusable. One person poops their pants and now we all have to wear diapers? That’s why DJI will lock you out of flying in certain areas without going through authorization processes (thanks guys!). It’s important for drone pilots to understand how to use the DJI Fly Safe geofencing system and how to unlock it. Live streaming from a DJI drone used to be a janky and low quality experience.
I don’t have a lot of restrictions near where I live, so let’s head a few hours west to San Francisco. This is what the DJI geofencing map from the DJI GEO website looks like . You can click/tap on any of these areas to find out what they are. I’ve added these descriptions my own to illustrate everything you’d see. Don’t fret about the lateral dimensions, it’s more important to understand what each zone means.
We’ll walk you through how to perform a Self Unlock in the next section. Gray zones indicate areas with altitude restrictions and are usually found near airport runways. Due to safety reasons, these restrictions cannot be turned off. Stay current with regular CineD updates about news, reviews, how-to’s and more. The version of the app they currently have made is incompatible with the Google Play store’s recent rule change.
You can also set whether the app and aircraft data are displayed using the imperial or metric system depending on your needs. In the using process of DJI Mavic Mini, you will get a new Precise Fly Safe Database update notice. The Precise Fly Safe Database Update is DJI’s way of updating their no-fly zones by way of geofencing.
The latest update to the phantom 4 app includes a native live streaming feature, which vastly improves and simplifies the live streaming experience. Yellow zones indicate areas where flying is potentially dangerous but does not require any unlocking . When taking off in these areas, a warning will be shown to pilots along with a request for the pilot to take responsibility for flying in the area by checking a box.
It is also important to highlight that some of the functions are available both on the smartphone or tablet screen and also on the physical control of the drone. I cite the RTH function (Return to Home / Return to the take-off point) or even functions to take photos, start recording videos etc. But several are unique to the app and cannot be accessed by the control, such as camera settings, and automatic flight modes, among many others.
Do not be like me, and match your drone video format with other cameras you have so that you can use all the footage together. The spare batteries from the Fly More Combo pack itself are already worth more than the 100 USD extra you paid for the pack. With 3 batteries, your flight time increases from 30 minutes dji fly to 1.5 hours which is something you will definitely appreciate when it is time for you to fly, trust me. Seriously, you can’t even get it off the ground when you are in a no-fly zone, no matter if you are indoor in your own home or your backyard so make sure to check it out before purchasing your first drone.
Hopefully, this capability opens to everyone sometime soon so you can just do it all in the DJI app. It also doesn’t display airspace classes, which restrict pilots from flying. Other apps like Drone Buddy include some of these areas but not all.
Be wary when using the auto setting as shooting whilst your cache is full may result in excess footage being deleted. The aircraft keeps the camera focused on the subject in the center of the frame and circle the subject at a slow constant rate and distance. This is an ideal QuickShot mode for showcasing an interesting perspective while highlighting a subject in the center of the frame. The aircraft will hover at a low, wide-angle viewpoint and then suddenly shoots upwards at a fast speed like a rocket lifting off into space.
