If I were to purchase them separately, the PowerLoad is $200 and the leaf blower is $130, so it comes to $330, a $60 difference for this one feature. The head is a piece of junk and a pain in the butt to reload the string. And when you tap the head while running more string does.t come out. Apparently they have changed heads now but that does me no good. You can pick up this model as a bare tool for $169 or with a 2.5Ah battery and standard charger for $229 at your favorite EGO retailer.
We’ve been covering outdoor power equipment since 2013, with guides to lawn mowers, snow blowers, and leaf blowers. All of this research and testing has given us a firm grasp of what makes a good piece of lawn equipment. And it has provided us with a deep knowledge of the various manufacturers and their reputations for quality, availability, and customer service. One thing that helps keep the noise level down is how well EGO controls the vibration in the tool. EGO does a great job across the board and their string trimmers tend to operate much smoother than most.
It’s a silly term for a welcome and cool feature. To load string into the trimmer, all you need to do is cut the length of string you need (for me, it’s a little over two outstretched arm’s length—not very precise). Then just feed one end into and through the trimmer head. Pull the string through until you have equal lengths coming out of both sides of the trim head. Lightly hold the string creating a tiny bit of tension.

Unlike most trimmers that let you place the handle for comfort, this trimmer adjusts. A telescoping handle moves to quickly match the height of the user. I know my wife is intimidated by gas powered equipment, sun joe lawn mower and I imagine it’s easier to get kids involved with electric stuff as well. Typical work around that’s recommended, if time is an issue is to drop off unit for warranty service, buy temporary replacement tool.
It’s hard to overstate what an improvement this is to what’s often the single-worst aspect of using a string trimmer. With most other trimmers, the entire trimmer head needs to be disassembled and the new line manually wound onto the spool . Ego’s system is a much-needed improvement in this area. I bought the first Ego product, greenworks pro the 12″ string trimmer, when it first came out about 4-5 years ago. It was a disaster due to a poorly designed head that made line feeding frustrating, no matter how carefully the string was wound on the spool. I bought this 15″ model when it first came out as initial reviews suggested they finally designed a working head.
You might think that almost all trimmers do this trick and you would be correct, But not all trimmers are this quiet and vibration-free. In fact, I when I began using it, I worried if it was operating at greenworks pro full power because it was so quiet. The EGO Power+ 15” POWERLOAD String Trimmer is just that—a trimmer. Mentally, I still call trimmers weed wackers, but I think that’s a brand name so “trimmer” it is.
The multi-head attachment tool is pretty cool and dead simple to use. The powerload string trimmer is definitely worth the price of admission. Aside from its power, run time, and control, this tool’s ergonomics are among the best we tested. The Ego weighs a little over 10 pounds, so it wasn’t the lightest of the bunch. But it was still very easy to manage due to its nice balance and the addition of a telescoping shaft and a quick adjustment on the handle . These two features make it possible to customize the ergonomics of the Ego to a wide variety of body heights and types, something we’ve never really seen on these larger trimmers.
