In May 2016 DJI released the next drone in their Phantom series that would further revolutionize the industry, the DJI Phantom 4. The Phantom 4 was the first consumer drone released with innovative computer vision and sensing technology that made it the safest and most intelligent phantom 4 UAV in the air to date. The Phantom 4 featured a first-of-its-kind front and bottom facing obstacle avoidance system that enabled the drone to intelligently detect objects in its path and automatically stop or move around the object to avoid potential collisions.
EP) was officially released on March 9, 2020, although it was first teased in a YouTube RoboMaster S1 commercial on November 25, 2019. On August 8, 2020, DJI formally launched an upgraded version named RoboMaster EP Core. Intended to be a counterpart to the Engineer robot from the competition, the EP Core features a gripper and numerous infrared distance sensors that can detect between 0.1–10 m (3.9 in – 32 ft 9.7 in).
They also produce smaller sized handheld gimbal systems in the Osmo line. The top end Osmo houses DJI’s best cameras, while the lowest-end version, the Osmo Mobile series, is made to handle your phone. The original Tello, from Ryze, was a fun little toy drone that happened to have some educational value to it, then DJI got involved and turned Tello into a full robotics platform.
While two of the under-$100 models I’ve tested were fun to fly, the photos and video they produced were hot garbage. I think most people would be better off buying one of the tiny toy drones above while saving up for DJI’s Mini 2. That said, if you don’t care about creating content, just want to have fun flying, and don’t mind taking a risk, these “toy” drones might be worth a look. In terms of raw sales numbers, indeed, DJI is the largest manufacturer around. In terms of quality, we’ve found to be above average for build quality and reliability, they have become our first choice when we need to grab a consumer drone and trust that everything will go smooth with the operation.
In the guide below you’ll see a host of the best drone deals which include big discounts on some of the best drones available. These days, people use drones for a number of different reasons, whether it’s just for the fun of flying, to play around with the tech available or to capture some serious aerial shots. The best drone deals in this guide reflect that with the range of products that are on offer. Drones aren’t just flying cameras, though; they’re also the modern version of remote-controlled vehicles. Again, they’ve made flying easier and more accessible, thanks to intelligent collision sensors that protect your investment from mishaps. There are a dizzying array of drones available, but there is a basic division to be aware of—cheaper drones, while fun, will never fly as well or deliver the kind of video and photo results possible with more expensive models.
