It picked up brilliantly, especially on carpets, and thankfully the 2.0 version continues, and improves upon, this tradition, with powerful cleaning that puts the competition to shame. If it’s a basic clean you’re after, the lowest setting is relatively quiet while there’s three higher settings giving you room to ramp things up for bigger messes—but, then, it does get quite loud .

We’re very happy with the little vacuum, but the software is lacking. When mapping our home, about 1/2 of the bedroom floor was missed. I can’t find any way of re-mapping just shark cordless that one piece of the puzzle, and so the vacuum is missing that part. I thought the mapping would be updated as more areas were found – but that doesn’t seem to be happening.
I tend to believe iRobot on this one (based on reviews I’ve conducted of various robot vacuums), but Dyson vacuums are famous for their ludicrously powerful motors, which may offset that. It tends to be the more expensive models that have room-mapping. Dyson has top-of-the-range options and it has reasonably sized options but, if all you want is one vacuum cleaner that isn’t too high-priced and does everything you require of it, there’s a £300 all-rounder for you too. The Dyson V8 Animal (£300) offers up to 40 minutes of charge and uses Dyson’s Direct Drive technology to pick up dirt across both carpets and hard floors. It can also be speedily adjusted to a handheld for those closer cleaning jobs. Most robot vacuum cleaners are short and wide, but Dyson has opted for a taller, narrower design with the 360 Heurist.
To connect the app and robot you will need to login into the robot’s own WiFi network with a password printed on the manual . Of course when you compare it to a full sized upright, it won’t match the sheer suction but when you compare it to other robovacs, nothing comes close to it. According to iRobot, the i3 and i7 have the same suction power but in our tests the i3 seemed to be a bit better – its twin rubber rollers performed extremely well on hard floor and superbly on carpet.
It will also let you know about spots it couldn’t tackle by taking pictures and sending them to the app. Lastly, the Dyson’s suction was not as strong as my extremely powerful Miele bagged vacuum. But after two weeks of vacuuming hardwood floors and carpets with the stick, I didn’t feel a need to plug in the full-size vacuum.
