The self-emptying bin is our favourite feature for sheer convenience, but its smart maps come a close second. You know which rooms need cleaning and which are too cluttered. Simply tell it where to clean as you go out, then leave it to do the housework.

Engineers used the V2 motor found in older Dysons, namely the DC35 and DC44 which has provided decent suction. These battery operated towers will send an infrared signal that creates an invisible barrier your vacuum will not cross. You can set it in doorways to prevent access to a room or area, or turn on radius mode to surround items such as shark cordless pet food bowls and easily knocked over items. The 980 also has touch sensors to prevent it from colliding with obstacles and furniture. If a collision is detected, it will reverse and go around the obstacle without causing damage.
Luckily the 360 Eye and the Roomba 980 make use of wheels and tank tracks for mobility. Touch sensors allow it to reverse and go around obstacles and drop sensors keep it on level floors. While the brush bar does go the entire width of the machine, it does not extend past it. Debris along edges and especially in corners is easily missed. The Dyson has a drop sensor to prevent it from falling off ledges or tumbling down stairs. While dark colors on carpet or tile flooring can confuse the sensors, it is less likely to avoid false drops like the Roomba 980 is prone to do.
The design of the Roomba 980 is not dissimilar to other Roomba. Instead of a centrally located “CLEAN” button, the Roomba 900 Series does shift that button up slightly in order to make room for the onboard camera, a critical component to the advanced navigation in this model. While they can’t empty their own dust bin into the trash can, the more advanced models that come out, continue to have more and more impressive features. dyson robot vacuum It said it plans to recruit a further 700 robotics engineers in fields such as computer vision, machine learning, sensors and mechatronics over the next five years. Along with the Auto function, you can manually add boundaries yourself via the app—once a room has been mapped. The mapping technology can store multiple maps, meaning you can set it down in your bedroom or kitchen, select the room and let it get to work.
This is certainly not a “stripped down” model, but is within the $$ price tier, making it a nice middle-of-the-road kind of a vacuum. On hardwoods, the cleaning performance was literally flawless.
