Its smart-map feature is as robust as any that we’ve used, letting you tell the bot which specific rooms to clean, places to avoid, and when to do it all through a smartphone app and Wi-Fi connection. It also moves faster and bonks into fewer things than other robots at this price, particularly the Roomba i3 EVO. It won’t clean carpets or hair as well as the Roomba i3 EVO and may not last as long, but owners generally seem satisfied with this bot’s performance. Previously a base model to consider, the newer options offer better power and more functionality than this Roomba.
It sort of converts into a handheld vacuum, but it’s very heavy, and you’ll need to remember where you put the awkwardly shaped nozzle. The LG CordZero R9 is a very expensive vacuum with powerful cleaning specs, but user reviews from Australia, where it’s been available for a while, are not favorable. There are tons more laser-nav robots, with largely similar specs and appearance, including bots from barely there brands, including Tesvor, Dreametech, Viomi, and Honiture. Again, our educated guess is that they all probably work okay and are just more prone to app glitches and less likely to get useful software updates over time than the best brands in this category. The Eufy 11S doesn’t have Wi-Fi or any smart-home connectivity, but you can still set a daily cleaning schedule with the remote control.
To get the best of both robot worlds, there are bundles of vacuum and mopping robot devices that can talk to each other. Set the robot vacuum to remove all the dust and dirt , then a robot mop can wash the floor. It may take a while to complete both steps, but it’s manageable either on a scheduled clean or with the push of a few buttons on the app. In testing, the Roomba s9+ performed the best of any robot vac on hardwood flooring. Its D-shaped design came within an inch and a half of the corner, picking up everything it could reach. The performance was still solid on carpeting with only about 10% of the flour left, 5% of the kitty litter, and no coffee grounds or pet hairs to be found after testing.
Third-generation and newer models are able to reverse their brushes to escape entangled cords and tassels. All models are designed to be low enough to go under a bed or most other items of furniture. Early models use only flashing lights to indicate specific problems, while later models use a synthesized voice to announce a problem and a suggested solution. Like its more expensive sibling the Roomba S9 Plus, the J7 Plus can empty its own dustbin. The robot’s CleanBase docking station both charges it and vacuums it free of debris automatically. However, unlike the Neato D7, our previous midrange robot vacuum pick, the Roborock S7 was much more effective at pulling sand away from both medium-pile (50.4%) and low-pile carpets (64.2%).
We’ve also noticed that the lesser-known brands have not updated their robots’ software with bug fixes or new features as consistently as Roborock has. Every model we’ve tested has gotten trapped or tangled at least occasionally, even the latest models with sophisticated navigation and smart-home integration. Since most rooms have furniture and objects scattered throughout, the best robot vacuums are able to internally map dyson robot vacuum and adjust the cleaning pattern accordingly. I didn’t find the home surveillance features particularly useful, but they could be handy if you’re concerned about security. The Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo Pro Mopping System attachment is the best mopping system I’ve tested. The 480-vibrations-per-minute scrubbing motion offers a deep clean. It made the powerful Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI Robot Vacuum even better. Another area where the unit showed poor performance was in corners.
