There have been multiple complaints that the drone switches off and fall while flying. DJI responded to this by releasing a mandatory battery firmware update in August 2017. Sometimes, like near an old monument or a crowded area, there might prohibit drone flying outright and you might get told off or worst, get arrested even if you do it unknowingly. Before you set out on to a location to fly your drone, first, make sure that your drone’s firmware and your DJI Fly app are actually up-to-date, preferably when you are on WIFI.

Sport mode is great for showing off and flying you drone into a tree while friends and relatives watch, capturing video over extremely large landscapes or tracking fast moving objects outdoors. The industry needs BIGGER and brighter from their enterprise UAS remote controllers right now and DJI is only giving us more of the same while increasing the price tag up to $5,000. The M3 Cine combo comes with the DJI RC Pro Smart Controller that was previously introduced with the Air 2S in the first half of 2021. The RC Pro boasts a 5.5” 1080p screen that reaches an average brightness level of 1000 nits. It is unfortunate that DJI releases the same exact smart controller but only updates the method of transmission to increase range which was already well beyond what Part 107 regulations will allow. The new FPV system lets pilots see from the drone’s perspective in low-latency high-definition video thanks to “O3”, the third iteration of DJI’s proprietary OcuSync technology. It allows pilots to capture ultra-smooth and stable 4K video at 60 fps with the stabilization of RockSteady electronic image stabilization. I am not going to dive into the fancy intelligent flight modes because 99% of the time I am manually operating unless flying an automated mapping mission using DroneDeploy for precision capture. All modern drones use a phone app to provide full inflight information to the pilot on the ground. In July 2020, the reports by Synacktiv and GRIMM on the security of the DJI GO 4 mobile app found that it collected user information from phones and was able to force the installation of updates. The app also prompted the user to grant permission to “Install Unknown Apps” for installing update from DJI site.
Then, when we returned to the DJI Fly’s main menu and tapped on ‘Go Fly,’ we got a black screen. Several of us were pleased with the new features of the app and had no issues. However, with the release of version 1.5.8, a new problem arose. To avoid having problems, my advice is to stick to the officially supported devices. Another problem users have reported with the DJI Fly app is that after modifying the yaw rotation speed and smoothness, they won’t go back to the factory defaults after tapping on ‘reset’.
