The standard version of the 2 would be a great purchase for most people who simply want to take a few videos or photos from time to time. However, if you love having plenty of memories from your holidays, or everywhere you go, the fly more combo is a much better option. The extra intelligent flight batteries alone make this package worth the extra money. The question to answer here is, should you get this or the more expensive Mavic Air?

This is something the Mavic 2 series and Mavic Air 2 performs automatically. This strikes me as a strange move on DJI’s part since most beginners may not be ready or willing to do the extra work in post-processing. Serious photographers may even want the 1″ CMOS sensor that the Mavic 2 Pro offers. This pulls out a menu that serves as access to all the features you need to capture imagery. Starting from the inside, a menu displaying the options of Photo, Video, QuickShot, and Pano appears.
On the photo end, you can select regular, AEB, and Timed Shots. Video pulls out to a menu that allows you to select resolution and frames-per-second. When you start recording, a zoom button displaying either ‘2X’ or ‘4X’ depending on the resolution appears next to the Shutter button on the right-hand side.
It even has Flight Tutorial, a feature to help you get started with Mavic Mini quickly and safely. DJI does have a decent track record of bringing useful software updates to its products. The first Mavic Mini received a massive upgrade last year which enabled things like the cinelike profile and added the ability to take RAW photos in addition to JPG. I hope DJI keeps adding more features to this drone, too, but as always you shouldn’t buy hardware today based on the hope of a software update in the future. The camera still has the same, small 1/2.3-inch 12MP sensor as the original Mini, but it produces much nicer photos than before.
We’ve dug into a camera with some of the broadest and deepest video feature sets ever. My main critique of this drone is the lack of protection for the camera. Toy drones under 250g are or will be classified as a toy, marked by some sticker etc, so it’s clearly visible in stores. They will not have same heavy restrictions as “normal” drones, operators can be under 16years of age etc. Yes, you still must follow general drone rules etc, but this drones are or will be made in a way, that range is limited to let say 30 or 50m, camera resolution is low and bad quality etc. If you’re like me, and read just enough to take it off, it could be costly.
Since then, DJI Tech Support has confirmed to fans on Chinese social media that it will soon release the Mini 3 series. Despite all that, DJI’s products continue to be available in the US as of this writing. The manufacturer does not allow us to advertise this product’s price online. Recent DJI launches have been preceded by increasingly frequent leaks and @DealsDrone, which picked up this new leak, has previously predicted that the drone would launch in April. If that’s true, expect to see some more leaks and early appearances in retail stores over the next two weeks.
With a video transmission of up to 10km, the Mini 2 boosts its range by 150% when compared to the original. Loaded up with a 5,200mAh battery, it’s little wonder the DJI Mini 2’s controller weighs 390g – significantly more than the drone itself. Its left and right joysticks are stored in the bottom part of the unit and screw onto their respective ball-socket element without too much fiddling. If flying isn’t your thing, but you want to take high quality aerial shots, try the Skydio 2 ($949 starter kit), a fully autonomous system with a lot of panache built in.
