Main Street, U.S.A.Spring break may be coming to an end for most parts of the country, but summer vacation is just around the corner, let’s see how that affected the wait times yesterday, April 5th. After a rainy weekend in Disney World (that almost affected the Springtime Surprise runDisney races!), the sun has been shining so far this week in Orlando. It seems as if all the songs, toys, and other merchandise that comes along with it are bound to be, too.
Disney’s been mastering this art since 1937 and has only grown more proficient at enchanting viewers as time has gone on. For many, watching an old, familiar Disney movie feels like coming home. This is also the latest Pixar movie with a Wilhelm scream sound effect.
Kevin & Robert were like “Screw that noise.” People clearly like this ride-thru shooting gallery. “Buzz Lightyear Astro Blaster” was hugely popular right out of the box with Disneyland visitors. So let’s just build the same thing — only different — over at DCA. So — for much of the 1970s & 1980s — concepts frozen ride on toy for various Mickey Mouse-based rides were drawn up. As I said, the first set of costumes that John & the Disney Studio Costume Department produced for Disneyland Park were extraordinarily heavy and awkward. The idea is that they first need to build a series of pathways through this 11.5 acre island which is — truth be told — only just-slightly-above-Florida’s-already-high-water-table. They also have to create sites where — eventually — recreation of the Benbow Inn & Ben Gun’s Cave will be built. The Love Bug would eventually find his way into a Disney theme radio flyer wagon park, though. How many of you remember — as you were experiencing the Backstage Tram Tour at Disney-MGM Studios — how you’d encounter Herbie popping a wheelie and then revving his edge / blowing out clouds of exhaust as he sat in a driveway on Residential Street. One particular concern was making sure that the cast of “Toy Story” didn’t get too big.
On January 9, 2019, Lasseter was hired to head Skydance Animation, which will produce animated films with Paramount Animation and Ilion Animation Studios. Lasseter is a close friend and admirer of Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki, whom he first met when TMS Entertainment sent a delegation of animators to the Disney studio in 1981 and showed a clip from Miyazaki’s first feature film, The Castle of Cagliostro . Lasseter was so deeply moved that in 1985 he insisted on showing that clip and other examples of Miyazaki’s work after dinner to a woman he had just met .
