Video shooting works fine in overcast conditions but the system also copes well if pointed towards the sun, handling flare sensitively. But, as you would expect from a small sensor, very overcast or dark conditions will result in a poor outcome. It does have a tendency to underexpose, so pick good flying days with sunshine for the best results. The DJI Mini 2 builds on the success of the previous Mavic Mini, providing a much better video shoot quality, while retaining the straight out of the pocket flying capability.
It’s a nice change of pace to my overall approach that I wasn’t expecting when I started my review. And though it obviously has a worse camera than DJI’s bigger drones, it’s still a very good camera. I underestimated the Mini 2 at first, but I soon discovered a ton of little improvements that make this new $449 drone a perfect package for a content creator on the go. As well as helping you control your drone, it has an intuitive interface that allows you to take complex shots with incredible ease. Use the various modes such as QuickShots or Panorama mode to get into the scene anywhere, anytime. The Mavic Air 2’s camera is fitted with a half-inch CMOS sensor with effective pixels of 12MP and 48MP and that means it’s good in low light conditions while producing marginally sharper, larger file sizes.
In the air, however, you’ll appreciate the extra performance, we immediately appreciated the addition of OcuSync 2.0, and the camera output. We also appreciate the upgrade to USB Type-C ports on the drone, remote and the Charging Hub. In still images, the quality of images taken in daylight is actually quite high. 12 MP is not all that much, and landscape photographers dji fly who make a living from their photos, would probably choose a drone with an even better camera. But even with 12 Mp from a relatively small image chip (1/2.3”), the still images are very sharp, with good detail sharpness. The motors and controllers have been improved since the Mavic Mini but the general look of the drone is still very similar.
Don’t worry we’re getting to the camera next, but for now, let’s take a short look at how similar these controllers are. They’re basically the same controller and I love that. It’s a bit weird that the transmitter of the Mini 2 is actually bigger than the drone itself, but I feel like this is the best drone controller I’ve ever tried.

I love the zoom most for its parallax effect and how different it makes your video look compared to any other out there, isolating the subject in front from a fast-moving background even more. The Air 2 has the ability to shoot in a flat color profile, this makes it much easier to edit in post processing for people how know about color grading. You can also get more detail out of the image this way.
