So it comes as no surprise that the scent is a sugary rendition of the brilliant structure of Shalimar Parfum Initial. I think of this as more of a cooler weather fragrance. The heat makes this overwhelming and cloying. I find this works well for both day and night. A couple of the flankers are wonderful for summer though. I actually find the flankers in this range stay true to the pillar fragrance while offering a little something new and are worth a sample especially the L’Eclat and Intense.
10 minutes later and it smells like maybe more orange blossom, but doused in sugar. I’m getting some vanilla sweetness and richness as well. There’s also almost a slight mustiness to it as well? Can’t tell if it’s because my perfume might be older or if it’s actually in there. Also, while this is very sweet, it does have a lot of warmth to it as well.
But seriously, why haven’t I tried this sooner? If you like Patchouli in perfumes that give it that sexy umph..,then this is fragrance for you. Let me start by saying that i hate this . Projection & longevity is excellent but its too sweet for my taste. The performance on the grand scheme of things lacks luster, and on a grading scale I’d give it a C-.

I got a roller ball since it was all I could afford at the time and loved it and couldn’t wait to wear it around. Now maybe I just used it too much, to the point I got fed up with it. Maybe my taste just changed as I got older, but now at 22 it just triggers my migraines. I think I would’ve enjoyed it more now, if I could smell any of those currant or floral notes. I can appreciate a good gourmand, I love a bit of Prada Candy or V&R BonBon on occasion, I absolutely cherish my bottles of Tom Ford’s Noir and Xerjoff’s Lira. But the main difference between those fragrances and La Vie Est Belle to my nose is that there’s something in them to balance out the sweetness.
I love the silage and it lasts and lasts . The dry down works because it lasts really well. This is vanilla central for a vanilla lover with sweet praline, vanilla, tonka with patchouli, black currant and iris. Many far better fragrances out there. Idk what it is about this fragrance but it really gives me a headache. The scent just feels targeted towards older women and not really a candy-like fragrance but more of a strong tobacco-like smell.
I was excited to try it as I had seen so many rave reviews about this scent. To me, it smells a lot like Black Opium. I think this lasts longer than black Opium though. The dry down is genifique a tad bit cloying on me though. I’m a gourmand lover, but I dislike La Vie Est Belle and much prefer a few other Lancome scents to this one. For me, LVEB is too heavy and cloying.
I prefer the extrait version though, because even if it’s supposed to be stronger, I don’t find it as overwhelming as this particular one. I think LVEB was one of the perfumes responsible for my change from heavy floral/musk/chypres to sweeter fragrances and gourmands. It walks the line between “love” and “like,” but I have to rank it as a “like” simply because it can be headache-inducing, as it is today. With that being said, I have a rollerball and hope to get a full bottle someday. This is the signature scent of a basic young woman – someone who is not picky when it comes to her scent profile, and does not bother to read the notes that come with the bottle. No stranger would get offended by this.
Flowerbomb lovers would appreciate it as well. It’s a very girly, fun fragrance that knows exactly what it is and doesn’t try genifique to be anything more. There’s no need to dissect this one, it’s a pretty simple and sweet, youthful and feminine perfume.
