Dji Mini 2 Review

However, the good news is that prospective Mini pilots do not need to sit the newly-elongated online multiple-choice exam. Granted, it’s not what current DJI Mini pilots expected but, hey, that’s life. This more simplistic experience than the DJI GO 4 app makes it easy for novice pilots to safely fly their drone. You’ll get a map and some drone telemetry, but many of the advanced settings and controls have been stripped away. All those image quality specs really do matter — but so does the DJI Mini 2’s size. It’s a drone that I never hesitate to toss in my camera bag.

Revamped in its entirety, simplicity is the name of the game here, and while it looks less like a Transformer given its fewer moving parts, there’s still an undeniable Johnny 5-like charm about it. Just like its larger Mavic siblings, the two Minis are collapsible, with arms that unfurl to transform the palm-sized unit into a drone with just a few spring-loaded maneuvers. On paper both drones handle the same amount of wind, both being rated at kph. The Mavic Air 2 is definitely worth it for people who shoot at weddings, who have a business that makes them money, and who need the drone as a main content creation tool. In my opinion, the Mini 2 is the perfect drone for anyone who prioritizes the small form factor, phantom 4 portability and being able to not register the drone in most countries out there. The difference isn’t that big between these two anymore and I’m super impressed with the quality of the camera in such a tiny drone. Of course the air 2 beats the mini in terms of specs, but that’s to be expected from such a huge price difference between them.

I’m very happy with this drone, especially at the affordable price for the refurbished “Fly More” kit. The kit, by the way, looked and worked like a brand new unit–shrink-wrapped, with all accessories down to spare cables and joysticks. The only way you could tell it wasn’t brand new was the small “refurbished” sticker.

DJI have already improved the app, DJI Fly, to add manual exposure to the Mavic Mini (this wasn’t included at launch), but here Auto Exposure Bracketing is an option too. It’s very good to have, though it’s limited to 3 bracketed frames at 2/3 EV bias (and it is a bit slow, so perhaps that’s partly understandable). This drone offers multiple QuickShot modes including Dronie, Circle, Helix and Rocket, all of which direct the drone to fly in a preset motion while it’s recording. And CineSmooth mode slows down the drone’s flight speed and movements, which the company said is especially useful when flying in narrow spaces. Tech company DJI recently launched the Mini SE drone, a compact and portable drone that’s suitable for beginners.

It’s a nice little bonus feature which could work in a pinch, but I wouldn’t rely on it too much. DJI does have a decent track record of bringing useful software updates to its products. The first Mavic Mini received a massive upgrade last year which enabled things like the cinelike profile and added the ability to take RAW photos in addition to JPG. I hope DJI keeps adding more features to this drone, too, but as always you shouldn’t buy hardware today based on the hope of a software update in the future.

DJI Mini 2 carefully optimizes user experience and intelligent features. Thanks to Smart Return to Home, automatic takeoff, and precise hovering, operation is more streamlined and safer than ever. The possibilities are endless when the sky is your playground. At less than 249 g, it weighs about as much as an apple and fits in the palm of your hand. Compact and convenient, Mini 2 is your ideal travel companion, transforming how you capture your favorite memories. It’s so small and light; it feels like it weighs practically nothing.

The camera has 12.8 stops of dynamic range and shoots up to 5.1k video. The transmission range has been improved on since the Mavic 2, increasing to 12km as well as an increased flight time to 41 minutes, thanks to improved battery life. DJI announced the Mavic Mini on October 30, 2019 as a replacement for the now discontinued DJI Spark and positioning it as a beginner camera drone. Its dji drones camera is on a three-axis gimbal and features a 12MP sensor capable of 2.7K video at 30 FPS. The Mavic Mini shares similar design characteristics with the Mavic Pro and Mavic 2 series, though notable for its portability and overall small size. In Japan, a model was released with a smaller battery weighing 50 grams (1.8 oz) less, to come in under Japan’s similar 200 grams (7.1 oz) limit.
