Bill Gates Casio Duro

Dive watches have to be rugged enough to survive and cheap enough to replace should they get terminally damaged, which can easily happen. The Casio meets the Spec on all those requirements, and costs less than getting my Dive Computer checked and serviced every year! On average they last about 3 Years as getting the water resistance re-tested on a battery replacement can cost more than buying a new one! Although the Casio mdv106 is a quality diver watch, there are alternative dive watches at this price. I’ve picked out three you should consider for comparison. They’re all under three figures and offer everything the Casio does, with 200m water resistance and good value.

A new strap doesn’t cost the earth, and with all the money you’ve saved buying the watch, it might be a good investment to replace the stock strap. The black and silver mdv106-1a has been given a red second hand that works well with the other colors. The blue and silver mdv106b-2av has a silver second hand.

The dial has an exceptional finish and quality control for its price, with markers applied with great precision, and sharp printing. The red-tipped second hand and the marlin logo are the only two focuses of interest on the MDV106’s roomy dial. The date aperture is quite small, I think the face would look more proportionate with a long rectangular g shock protection window instead of a tiny square. Casio is famous for their affordable but well – constructed watches, the MDV106 is not an exception. The case has a steel construction with no rough edges, making the watch look much more expensive than its actual price. The watch’s design cannot be more simplex, you won’t find any creative details on the case.

The MDV-106 is also referred to as the marlin, due to that fish appearing on the dial and caseback. It’s widely available at under £65 / $60, and I’ve seen other watch enthusiasts share it going for a pretty ridiculous $35 in places such as Walmart. Are the MDV 107’s out yet and if so hasn’t anyone reviewed it yet and or compared to the MDV 106x’s? Hoping they will come out with either a white or cream or light dial in the future. Doing both my Black and Blue Duro’s, Perhaps in the future I will pick up the gold accented one but really want a light dial one more at this point. I know nothing about the coatings they use for luminescence.

Here are the rest of the specs for the Casio MDV-106. The watch’s black resin band looks stylish and in keeping with the diver/sea theme; however, g shock protection on closes inspection, it does look more like cheap plastic. This doesn’t seem to bother most reviewers as the strap is easily swapped out.
