This gap drove the company into bankruptcy protection on January 29, 2003. The name of the company was taken from the Cannondale Metro North train station in Wilton, Connecticut. Another story as told in their 1983 catalog is that employee Pete Meyers was sent to order telephone service installation in 1970. When asked for the name of the business to be listed under, Meyers coined the name while looking at a rusty cannon inscribed “dale” and the sign on the Cannon railroad crossing. For the Cannondale neighborhood in Wilton, Connecticut, see Cannondale, Connecticut.

In the late 1990s Cannondale moved into the motorsports business, producing a line of off-road motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles. Mechanically the bike shifts and brakes well but could use a complete tune up to reach it’s full potential as one of our shop’s mechanics has not tuned it up.
Huffy bikes were originally made in the U.S., but by the mid-1990s, the company fell into deep financial trouble. The U.S. Bicycle industry had consolidated, and high-volume retailers accounted for three-fourths of the U.S. market, which gave them massive control over manufacturers. On the other hand, there are a few downsides to Huffy bikes. While the brand does manufacture some great bikes, one of the drawbacks is that they often arrive at your doorstep in parts.
