It’s hard to go wrong with this bad boy, especially if you’re looking for a larger watch with wrist presence. It comes dozens of different colors and limited editions, so you have plenty of choices. The weak backlight is the most common complaint that people have with this watch.
It takes the basic concept of the DW6900 and reduces it to a more affordable version. The effect is precise timekeeping synchronised to the atomic clock and a build that meets G-SHOCK’s high expectation for durability. To aid ease of reading the built-in compass, there is a rotating bezel that is numerically labelled. This G-SHOCK model is unusual in that it has both optical and analogue displays for timekeeping. Due to the size, G-SHOCK watches are often marketed to a male market.
Other features include world time, 5 daily alarms with 1 snooze alarm, stopwatch, and countdown timer. The dark gray GA700UC-8A from the GA-700UC Utility Color Series is one of three models with military-inspired colors. The low-temperature LCD screen makes the watch great for mountaineering, but also working g shock watch in a laboratory’s cold room. Very clear and easy to read at a glance with white hands on black background. Digital display is adequate size, bigger than some other casios, but I would like to see bigger. Nice that it has the feature to move the hands out of the way of digital display if needed.
Direct shocks to the buttons, glass and case back are alleviated. Key parts inside the module are individually protected with a cushioning material to prevent errors in operation or damage if the watch receives a shock. A structure that lessens the force of external shocks by supporting the module at just a few points inside the case.
G-Shock watches by Casio are tough enough for military personnel and reliable enough for FAA approval. Featuring watches for men and women, G-Shock watches are also available in digital and analog. These Casio watches are shock- resistant, waterproof and showcase a wide-range of intricate functions such as Bluetooth, compasses, barometers, depth meters, pedometers and even GPS location. These attributes make the brand a signature for law enforcement, first-responders and those serving in the armed forces. Alpha-gel encased mechanics allow this watch to withstand tremendous impact and its stainproof, resin band keeps the watch flexible for comfort. Taking three years to perfect the innerworkings of these watches, G-shock has reached its pinnacle of design, realizing their watches can successfully survive a drop from the stratosphere.
I won’t go into the specifics other than to say if you’ve used resin bands in the past & been less than pleased with them you won’t be any more pleased with this one. But if you’re satisfied with them, you’ll be happy with this one too. FYI, I had a new, spare, $8, generic, black velcro band that I’d planned to use on my old watch, so I tried it on this watch & it works great. It looks decent & you’d have to know that the watch originally came with a different band to pick up on it’s being a replacement.
All the movements here are quartz-driven, providing the same reliability and durability found in the other models, while the presentation ups the elegance to some. G-Shock likes to give its most premium models all-analog displays, and prices will reflect that. Let’s contemplate the following two G-Shocks, just to get a sense of the breadth available. The first is the $380 Mudmaster from the Master of G series, an enormous battle-ready analog/digital hybrid badass with more capability than your smartphone. The second is the $150 Hotei Limited Edition from the 7 Lucky Gods Collection, which appears fey and airy but is, like all G-Shocks, tough as nails.
The negative display can be hard to read, particularly in glare or medium light. It’s a simple and straightforward solar watch – all you have to do is put in your city, and the watch will do the rest. As you can see from the retro design, this model has been around for more than 15 years and is still going strong. As with GA110 above, the main appeal of G-Shock GA700 is in its looks. It’s a big, rugged and masculine watch that’ll take any abuse you throw at it. The watch is light for its size, which makes it comfortable to wear.
Although, at the other end a bright future was waiting ahead for the Casio G-Shock. Surprisingly, when in North America an advertisement featuring a hockey player wearing g shock watch the G-shock’s next-generation model (the DW-5200C) was played people became persuaded to purchase it. And this was the point when the G-Shock’ growth gained momentum.
