Facebook’s First Smart Glasses Are The Ray

This is because they are made in partnership with Ray-Ban , and Facebook has had a rough couple of years in the public eye. And “Stories” because, you know, Instagram stories and Facebook stories and also Snapchat “story,” lol. Facebook has just released Ray-Ban Stories, sunglasses with tiny cameras that take video and photos.

If you are unsure whether your legal dependents are eligible under your vision insurance plan, please check your benefit information. Eyeconic has the Ray-Ban sunglasses and eyeglasses you’re clubmaster looking for. Photographs of General Douglas MacArthur sporting Ray-Ban Aviator sunglasses introduced the style to the masses, and the brand has only become more popular since then.

Even though this is a product collaboration between two globally recognizable brands, these are Facebook glasses. A white LED light built into the front corner of the frames pops on to alert people when you’re recording (also, there’s a shutter-snap sound when taking ray ban caravan photos), but these alerts are pretty subtle. In fact, my kids standing next to me in bright daylight didn’t really notice it. That, combined with the unexpectedly subtle darkened camera lenses on the glasses, make these a lot more stealthy than I was expecting.

Facebook has long been under scrutiny for how it treats people’s personal data. Using the glasses to surreptitiously film people is bound to cause concerns, not to mention what Facebook might do with the videos that people collect. Facebook’s latest foray into “Wait, haven’t I seen this before? ” is a pair of photo- and video-capturing sunglasses, à la Snap Spectacles. They’re called Ray-Ban Stories, with Ray-Ban appearing first and Facebook second in most of the product branding.

Even though the Ray-Ban Stories may seem to have limited availability right now, Facebook and Luxottica have a multi-year partnership that will result in even more products. It’s likely that true AR glasses, which can display information on your lenses, aren’t far off. And you can be sure of that, since Snapchat has already shown off its own AR Spectacles.

In general, you’ll find both brands pretty neck and neck in price for their everyday eyewear collections, setting you back between $150-$175 per pair.

In doing camera-equipped smart glasses, Facebook has also found one of the last things to copy from Snapchat. Both Bosworth and Basilico didn’t mention Spectacles by name in our conversations, but it was clear that they think Ray-Ban Stories are going to be more universally appealing than Spectacles. Luxottica deciding to partner with Facebook could also be an offensive move to get ahead of the coming smart glasses boom. Snap began giving its first iteration of Spectacles with AR displays to a handful of developers and partners earlier this year.

Polarized sunglass lenses on many sunglasses are still quite delicate. They can still easily be scratched or destroyed if you accidentally get industrial lubricants or solvents on them. We talked with numerous doctors about increasing the life of polarized sunglasses, and they agreed. The best cleaner to use is a lotion-free, mild dishwashing liquid such as Great Value, Palmolive, Joy, or Ajax.
