The idea for the G-SHOCK line was conceptualized in 1981 when Casio engineer Kikuo Ibe dropped the pocket watch he received from his father accidentally. A trio dubbed “team tough” was chosen to create a timepiece that was rugged enough for everyday dings and drops. Ibe was enlightened to learn baby g shock that a rubber ball’s center doesn’t suffer a shock when the ball is bounced, leading him to incorporate that idea into the first-ever G-SHOCK timepiece. He also wanted to make the watch water-resistant up to 102 meters, fall-resistant up to 10 feet, and have a battery life of one decade.
These models were the very first G-Shock watches to have a countdown timer. The countdown timers on these models were designed to count down for surfing competitions, some of the later models have a yacht timer, moon and tide graphs so a surfer can keep track of the progress while competing on the water. Many of these models came equipped with a pair of strap adapters and a single one-piece resin or nylon band.
In September 2018, to mark the 35th anniversary of G-Shock, Casio released a collection of four clear model of G-Shock watches called “The Glacier Gold” collection. New limited models are introduced more frequently throughout the year. Special models are released upon the anniversary celebration of the G-Shock brand and are sold through selected retail channels. The DW models are standard baby g shock battery-powered G-Shocks while GW models of the G-Shock come with either Tough Solar or Multi-Band atomic timekeeping or both. Known for their brutish design, G-SHOCK watches are perfect for adventurers, blue-collar workers, military personnel, and hungry athletes. They are some of the toughest watches on the planet thanks to sturdy 10-layer construction that protects the quartz movement.
The all-metal timepiece has a vintage square case design, Super Illuminator LED light, unique STN LCD display, and a solar battery. This watch also features Atomic Timekeeping technology, which means it will provide you with precise timekeeping anywhere you are thanks to radio signals from six transmitters across the globe. The GMWB5000D-1 is one of G-SHOCK’s most aesthetically appealing watches.
The durable watch is shock and mud-resistant and features a quad sensor and dual Super Illuminator LED light, making it ideal for rough and dirty terrain. By maintaining a constant Bluetooth connection with your smartphone, the MT-G syncs with the G-SHOCK Connected app, which is connected to a time server to deliver the most accurate time, no matter what time zone you’re in. If you lose the Bluetooth connection on your phone, there are six calibration signals around the world that can pick up the time-keeping slack. CASIO’s shock-resistant G-SHOCK watch is synonymous with toughness, born from the developer Mr. Ibe’s dream of ‘creating a watch that never breaks’.
