The Cuisinart comes with a vented stainless steel cooking lid that fits over the entire 22-inch diameter griddle. With the cover on, you can use the griddle to roast, steam, warm, or smoke. When you’re not using the lid, it hangs on the right side of the unit, so you don’t have to put it on the ground. Just like any cast-iron surface, if you want to start off well, you’ll first need a good seasoning. Apply a thin layer of oil on the surface, and sweep it with a paper towel. Turn the three burners up to high to burn the oil.
It also lacks a holder for the propane tank, which makes it a little more challenging to move from place to place. More care needs to be taken with griddles that have nonstick surfaces to avoid scratching and damaging the coating. Cleaning a griddle is an important part of maintaining it and ensuring it cooks food evenly and without causing it to stick. To clean a griddle, first scrape the surface clean with a metal spatula, scraper, or scouring pad, and then wipe it down with a paper towel. Pouring water on the grill while it’s still hot can also help to remove stuck-on food.
The discoloration on the surface of your griddle is a sign that the oil that you used to clean your griddle is bonding with the surface of the griddle. You will also need some flax or vegetable oil to apply to your griddle. Much like a cast-iron skillet, it is very important never to use soap on your griddle. Soap will strip the surface of your griddle and make food more likely to stick to it.
I picked up a griddle accessories kit on amazon that came with a couple plastic bottles. I keep one full of oil for cooking and one full of water. Once I’m done cooking, I spray water on it while it’s still hot, then use a scraper to scrape the mess to the back where the drip tray is. Once it’s cooled off, I clean out the drip tray and wipe off the side/circular trays, then coat the cook top with a thin coat of oil so it’s ready to go for next time.
As far as coloring of the surface, we rotate the griddle surface 45° before each use. It is now completely black, matte and non-stick. When I cook on a griddle with a spatula in each hand, I always feel cuisinart pots and pans set like a short order cook. And I love the nostalgia of the food that comes off the griddle. It reminds me of classic Sunday diner meals with my family. That’s when you cook an egg without flipping it.
I got to say this thing is heavy but for a good reason. The griddle plate is thick, and the overall build is sturdy. I love that it folds down for storage, it makes it easy to take it camping. There is plenty of room for cooking a lot of food cuisinart soup maker and the two grease catchers are convenient. The heat seems to be even across the cooking surface and seasoning the griddle helps get rid of some but not all sticky food situations. I cannot wait to use it again on our next camping adventure.

DO NOT touch metal parts of griddle unl it has completely cooled to avoid burns, unless you are wearing protecve gear (pot holders, gloves, BBQ miens, etc…). DO NOT obstruct the flow of combuson and venlaon air to this appliance. Keep all electrical cords away from a hot griddle. DO NOT use griddle for indoor cooking or heang.
The steam from the water on the hot surface will help release tough debris. While it cools you’ll want to remove and clean out the grease cup. After you have applied a fair amount of flax or vegetable oil over the entire surface of your griddle, use your cleaning pads to scrub away any remaining food remnants. When you’re ready to start cleaning, turn your griddle on high heat. Allow your griddle to remain on high heat for 3-5 minutes. Give your griddle time to cool off before you begin the scraping process so that you don’t accidently burn yourself. I’ve done everything on it but my favorite is Philly cheese steaks. I still need to try another pan on it to boil water or heat up a cast iron but otherwise it’s awesome.
