Department-store Mongoose bicycles perform well for their intended uses and so do Mongoose’s higher-level bicycles. Brain Baldis, director of product development for Mongoose, shows off a three-pound aluminum frame that will be used in BMX bikes in 2018 at Pacific Cycle’s Madison headquarters. The company is preparing for an event next month unveiling the 2018 line of Mongoose bikes for dealers, distributors and an international contingent of mountain and BMX bike media.
Dave Duecker, vice president of product for Madison-based Pacific Cycle, shows off the 2018 version of the Mongoose Boot’r. Improvements to the bike this year include a revamped dual suspension system and lighter components. Mongoose is a brand name of bicycles originally designed, manufactured, and sold by BMX Products, Inc. Its large tires and U-brakes system provides extra stability and greater breaking power. The frame is build of high tensile steel and the drive-train is fast with micro 25/9 cassette setup.
21-speed twist shifters and rear derailleur provide effortless gear changes, while alloy v-brakes deliver reliable stopping power. Furthermore, the 24″ wheels come with light yet strong alloy rims, and a 3-piece crank ensures stability and responsiveness when you encounter unexpected bumps and turns. The seat is padded so that you can have long rides with great comfort. Based on 21-speed twist shifters with a Shimano rear derailleur, it is easy to change gears with correction and have a smooth ride under any terrain conditions. The frame features mountain style and is composed of steel for sturdiness. There are 21 – speed twist shifters and a Shimano rear derailleur making the gears easy to be changed for each type of terrain.
Its pedals feature beach cruisers for easy access as well as comfort on your long trips. In particular, the frame is made of Hi-Ten steel, which ensures the ability to bear bumps or jumps. Plus, it comes with a tapered headtube and removable brake mounts for keeping brake cable for neatness. When it comes to the brake system, it provides precise speed control for safety that is huffy beach cruiser important for your performance. Its drivetrain includes 170mm one-piece forged steel cranks with a 25T alloy chainring and an American loose ball bottom bracket for a smooth and reliable operation. But I had a Mongoose Supergoose in the mid 80’s (full chro-mo with holes in the rear dropouts) and it took tons of abuse from me. I was flying 6 feet in the air while my friend with a Diamond Back was getting like 6 inches. Getting people out riding on affordable bikes that can have decent performance is arguably more important than anything else. That being said, if you take any bike out of its comfort zone, it will perform poorly, regardless of the brand. In trying to offer value to beginners, the Mongoose brand slowly became associated with big-box bikes sold in stores like Walmart, which somewhat affected their brand image. This is a shame because Mongoose still makes excellent bikes, and they have an excellent pedigree particularly in BMX and extreme sports.
