This new red and green Christmas color accented special Winter Premium model is the latest additions to the G-SHOCK lineup of watch that have been pushing the limits of timekeeping toughness since 1983. White-on-black model’s analog hands are fine, “stealth” gray-on-black, and red-over-red models not so much. Digital screen is hard to read in direct light but on-your-wrist legibility is fine.

And do a real review before you smear the brand and make false accusations. If you are not familiar with the CasiOak series pause and look it up now as before we examine the technical details, we must address the elephant in the room. The new Casio bears more than a passing resemblance to an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak.

I don’t think we’ve seen the last of this model. I have small hands and a relatively narrow 6.5” wrist – not the best place to put a large, chunky watch. For me, they are nothing more than a water-resistant digital watch that has appropriated an iconic brand name but fails to deliver on many of the expected technical characteristics.

Based on my own experience and the reactions of others, baby g shock the reasons are very simple. Personally, I find the GA A1 to be a fine daily watch, but only if I’m using it for the sole purpose of telling the time. To compound my angst, the Blackout “Stealth” model is aimed at the military “fashion” market and has no practical value. It is almost illegible and flies in the face of everything that a genuine Special Operations watch is designed to do. The strap is fit for purpose and it has a quick release, but it isn’t easy to find an alternative aftermarket strap for this model. The only gripe with these g shock protection is that they kept the buttons silver – this is the only non-stealth aspect of the watch. The module is protected with a carbon fiber-reinforced resin case.
