Time and day of the week are offered by analog means while a pair of LCD offers electronic functions like time zones, stopwatch, alarm, countdown and more. When it comes to durable watches packed with cool style, Casio’s G-SHOCK sets the benchmark – and this GA-2100 version shows exactly why. It’s made using the g shock protection label’s Core Guard technology – meaning it provides superior shock resistance through use of carbon fibre – and comes with the black octagonal bezel for the retro look. Allowing you to customise the look, it comes fitted with an interchangeable strap, and to finish, it’s water resistant for up to 200 metres.

Should Casio introduce other colors, you’ll be able to mix and match the straps. Most probably, in my mind, it was the way the more standard “round” case sat on my wrist in addition to how interesting and intuitively arranged the display is. At first glance, I didn’t like the Casioak style, but I do find it all the more wearable than the many novelties I’ve had pass through my hands from Casio this year. After resisting the urge to leap on a novelty that didn’t convince me out of the gate, I eventually caved and bought an artist-modified Casioak skeleton for myself.

The new GA-2110SU-3A (GA2110SU-3A in the U.S.) has been selling out quickly at some American retailers. Based on my own experience and the reactions of others, the reasons are very simple. An appearance slim, compact, and simple intentionally overturns the notion that G-SHOCK watches are always massive. Heir to the essence of the very first G-SHOCK, the GA-2100 delivers the very essence of functional beauty.

This led to a shock resistant structure that includes a hollow-structured case, all-directional protective covering and the use of cushioning material to protect critical parts. The GA-2100 sword-shaped minute and hour hands won’t please lumatics, but the lume’s bright enough for one-handed time check in the dark, and it saves battery power. It’s too bad the G-SHOCK GA-2100 didn’t place lume dots near the indices. The on-board illumination button triggers both a back light for the digital screen and a LED for the analog display.
