This is a clean, older-style scent, and is very much in my wheelhouse as a result. I’ve always appreciated my barbershops, old schools, and pine scents have always appealed to me. This is a staple fragrance, and I’m happy to own it once again.
I prefer the modern, toned down, version. I remember back in the 80’s and 90’s that I wouldn’t buy a bottle because it was too intense, too much sillage. It was easy to overdo it and end up offending people. I loved the smell then, but I was never bold enough to buy a bottle. Made from soft cotton jersey, this comfortable sleep shirt is styled with a “Polo RL-67” print along the left side. The watch features a large 42mm case, but it’s made from titanium, which should help it feel light and unencumbered on the wrist.
And yes, it’s still absolutely outstanding. A fragrance born the same year as me, ended up being my very first cologne that made me say hey, I need this in my life. I want to look like this, I want to smell like this, I want more plaid in my life, and I need a better haircut. Must have been 1989 or so I started stealing sprays from my older brother. Like dozens and dozens of men my age, this scent was what got me into men’s fragrance.
Putting on my quarter zip sweatshirt 2 days after I had taken it off I was immensely surprised to smell the PERFECT dry down of Polo. If there was 1 scent that I would want to smell like, regardless of day, time, season or circumstance, polo dress shirts it would be this one. Ultra-hyper masculinity in a bottle. The handsome, fit, complete and versatile man. A traditional man, a loyal man, a good father and a loving husband. This is my absolute favorite winter fragrance.
It still lasts well and seems more versatile now to me. Redolent of pine trees and stale cigarette butts. A sharp, bitter synthetic “green” fragrance that’s more dated than Burt Reynolds’ mustache. This is the most ubiquitous fragrances on older men in America, especially the South. Much like my elders, I respect it, but I’d rather spend my time and money on any other piece of my collection. This is one of the few fragrances that I can smell in public and undoubtedly know exactly what the man is wearing.
Trends comes and go, but a no-frills Brooks Brothers dress shirt is forever. “Ralph Lauren to Outfit Players at Wimbledon”. In the past, Wimbledon has done its own design of officials’ uniforms. Ralph Lauren Corporation is the exclusive Official Parade Outfitter for the U.S.
Performance wise it is a beast for me. I find that applying some Vaseline on the area and then spraying helps longevity as well (good for your skin, too!). However, I’m youngish so my experience has been positive since most of my peers don’t remember or weren’t around for the 70s or 80s and haven’t smelled this. If anything this cologne gets the most positive reaction from younger women out of all my colognes.
