After serving at Pearl Harbor in the early 1950’s—where he was a member of both the U.S. Navy surf and swim teams—Hoffman began to sell tropical-print fabrics through his family’s textile business. Over time, Hoffman helped pioneer the popularity of the traditional “aloha” shirt, which eventually formed the foundation of modern surf wear. These aforementioned subjects have marked the heritage of the luxury fashion house.
Smells very natural, therefore much better than previous reformulations. I got my 118 ml bottle at a discounted price of less than $60 (normal price is $100) which is a huge bargain for this type of quality fragrance. I will gladly repurchase in the future. My Vintage bottle polo dress shirts arrived today, what a fantastic scent, so happy I found it. This is for those who may want a wearable version of the original, but mostly for those who seek the nostalgia and memories associated with the scent. Just got my bottle yesterday, it is a current formulation.
A further expression of the brands passion for American lifestyle continues to preserve and evolve the nations emotions, successes and family memories. I’m apprehensive about bashing this one (but I will- it’s forthcoming) because it’s such a well loved classic. It comes from a different era when fragrances were bolder and you got more bang for your buck. But I gotta tell ya, this stuff is polarizing! You’re either gonna love it or hate it.
This is a scent I’ve been wearing since the early 90s. Polo green like old spice, it makes a man smell like a man. Nothing gender neutral or metrosexual about this, it’s out there letting others know this what it means to be manly. Polo Ralph Lauren t shirt It’s old skool in the same category as cerruti 1886, Givenchy gentleman, quorum. The kind of aftershave your dad or grandad still wears. I’m not sure this appeals to a younger generation and you either love it or hate.
I never knew anybody in my background who wore Polo. My only childhood association was a teacher who reminisced that men splashed it on at the gym. I became acquainted with it when I began selling fragrances at a department store and let me tell you, I sold a lot of Polo. We called it Polo green and when we broke a bottle the whole store knew. Yes it is potent, but that is the point. The virility expressed through potency in this cologne is matched by the uber masculine green-oakmoss accord.
The tobacco note in Polo, as elsewhere, only serves to make me love this more. Got a 237ml bottle of this as Xmas present to myself – ‘cos I is werf it. The big talk about this one is reformulation. Now if you do some research, there are Warner, Cosmair, and Luxury Products versions of Polo. The Warner is the original formulation with the best longevity and performance. The Cosmair is the more balanced scent version of the 3 formulations.
This is such an intoxicating scent that it becomes you. Once you grow up with this, your standards are so much higher in what you expect a good edt to be. This is something millenials just don’t understand. Look if God had his own perfume house, then this would be the garden of Eden scent.
Smells like being bashed around the head with a pine branch. The first fragrance I’ve loved rather than just liked, before I was pretty disillusioned with what was on offer wrt modern fragrances, I think I might favour the older ones. This fragrance screams ‘Grandfather’ to me. It has a very classic scent that smells like a well put together older gentleman. It is a bit dated, but in a classic sense of the word. My only caveat is that the tobacco note is somewhere between the raw dried leaf and smoked cigarette smell.
