I recently read about this perfume and was astonished that it was created in 1978. And that it is called an old man’s perfume. I’ve been wearing this since the time I was 24 and fit right in. I think it is extremely masculine scent.
This is a love from me and I believe that if you love greenness, nature and green, spicy, herbal, grassy fragrances generally, then you will love this. Definitely one to try and wear first. Still a great and unique smell even today.
The product was a very easy-to-tell fake. The counterfeiters do not try to match details of the original product. Of course I returned the fake Polo, why would I want to keep a fake? The seller still has the Polo product advertised in eBay for cheap, which of course I won’t ever buy again.
Any alternate option for polo green ? I really love this fragrance but performance for me is disappointing, I currently have 2018 batch . I wore this infrequently in high school and only recently reacquired it. I loved it for its masculine juniper and pine as a child, and now I appreciate the subtle backbone of leather.
(Though Polo itself is not smoky.) Amazing what scents can do to your memories. Once it dried down, it turned into a mix of black pepper and a freshly mowed lawn. Basically, what hits you first is the mix of cut grass and other plants, then the unmistakable piquant smell of the black pepper. 90% of what I’ve sampled before have been women’s fragrances, which tend to skimp on the black pepper. While I think that it would smell quite masculine and attractive on a man, I’m not sure that a woman wouldn’t be able to wear it in the right circumstances.
I don’t know of any fragrance that actually smell close to it though. Nothing to add but this is the epitome of masculine men’s fragrance. I never wore this on a regular basis in the past but I believe the recently purchased bottle I have, though true to what I remember, has the overall heft and base notes dialed back.
It becomes more evident on clothes as the day goes by. I’m reminded of how my clothes smelled when I was a smoker. It’s also a very nostalgic smell and, yes, I would also dub it a “dad smell”, if there was such a thing.
This scent is soo good and takes me back. Every time I spray it, I think of my friend, and playing with our Star Wars figures back in the day, which is nice. Everyone needs a few anchor-points back to their young and carefree days, and funnily enough, Polo Green has become one of mine from a memory I will always look back on with a smile. My poor ERG forever stunk of Polo Green after that, the smell literally never vanished! Back in the day this stuff was a whole forest crushed and compressed into liquid form and then crammed into a bottle! My uncles signature for over 30 years.
Somehow it smells substantial and dignified, but not in a lax way. The activity is there, but it is rooted. This is for a man who Polo Ralph Lauren t shirt is clean shaven and dresses smart, but isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty — in a word, your archetypal 70’s New York detective.
