Polo Ralph Lauren Menswear

I really don’t know about the reformulation. The bottle I have is recent and superb. Let me put it this way, if it is reformulated just think of it as a new perfume and it would stand head and shoulders above any new release or any of the new Tom Ford Fougeres. I will always have Polo in my collection, even if I decided to shrink it down to only 10 fragrances. Polo is one of the easiest scents in the world to overspray. I think we’ve all been in the room with a guy who wore too much of this on too warm of a day.

Still smells great but unfortunately for me my stepfather still wears this and I have a hard time wearing this and feeling like it’s my own. I only wear this around the house occasionally in the fall and winter months because I love the smell. This is my wife’s favorite of all my fragrances and will always have a place in my collection. The dry-down maintains the green, woody vibe, and the patchouli, oakmoss, vetiver, leather and tobacco keep it dark and mature.

The newer one is focused on the cigarette “ash” and has a lighter green pine note . It opens up green but definitely it’s dark green and ashy. Soon the tobacco joins – I’ve heard some saying it smells like a cigarette ash tray – I don’t mind. The drydown is dark – heavy leather with woods and tobacco but still with pine note infused. The opening is quite harsh and reminds me of Paco Rabanne Pour Homme. I get mainly a synthetic pine note that seems to become more natural smelling as the fragrance evolves.

Polo tried hard to add flankers, red, blue, that weird orange one. Keep producing just this in that vintage green bottle and I’ll be happy. I’m surprised how little I want to use but it’s because I need to keep this bottle for the rest of my life. This is definitely a barbershop type fragrance; I’ve used polo dress shirts aftershaves which smelled very similar. It’s quite nice, but it’s not my favourite of this genre, or at this price point, so I’m not likely to get a full bottle unless I come across one at a yard sale or for pennies online. I wonder if some of the older formulations would have impressed me more.

When it dries down to the its basenotes, the pine gives off a damp sweetness. I first smelled this on my friend who wore a Chaps Ralph Lauren brown ralph lauren t shirt leather jacket. It is burned in my memory as having a relation to leather, yet the green notes of pine seem to dominate this wonderful scent.

The current version is absolutely beautiful and performs incredibly well. If you want to spend your life trying to chase shadows of a past that is never coming back, that’s fine. But don’t put people off of what’s here now. The memories of a nice deep oily green and dry woody scent are still strong.

Once he purchased his own and started to use it, he just didn’t like it as much. Smelling this for the first time was like meeting someone and feeling you had known them your whole life. This resonated with me far more than any other fragrance and I now have almost 50. This is No.1 and only the original Givenchy Gentleman comes remotely close. Givenchy Gentleman got me into fragrance collecting, but Polo has turned me into a fragrance youtuber.

Here, model Maverick LaRue from vnymodels.comportrays the power to interpret the unique qualities that reinstate men’s clothing for the new generation derived from the culture expressed by POLO Ralph Lauren. For me, this is the way American men should dress. It evokes a positive feeling of freedom and a great future ahead. Photography by Macrae Marran/Polo-Ralph Lauren Ralph Lauren Corporation started in 1967 by making men’s ties. The following year , Lauren named his first menswear collection “POLO” – a name that signifies American culture in strength, sport, style and family values.
