In 1968, in an effort to market a children’s bicycle with an automotive theme, Huffman designers added a car-type steering wheel in place of handlebars to the Rail frame, which became the Huffy Wheel. In mid-1968, Huffman released the Flaming Stack chain guard, which was designed to look like the distinctive side exhaust pipe covers on the Corvette sports car. Later that same year, Huffman released a new Slingshot model with 16″ front dragster wheel, and 20″ rear.
The recalled products are all model year 2014 TR 745 and TR-S 740 bicycles with 27.5-inch wheels. “Huffy” is on the downtube of the frame of both bicycles and model name TR 745 or TR-S 740 is on the rear portion of the frame. The TR 745 has a green frame with model number 26504M on the bottom of the frame near the pedals. The TR-S 740 has a white frame and model number 26604M on the bottom of the frame near the pedals. Bicycles that have a green dot on the inside of the quick release lever are not included in this recall. This is what the Roadmaster and Huffy mountain bikes promise to do for you.
I would not buy a new one, but rather scout out a used one at garage sales; Craigslist or the Bike Project and you just may have the perfect campus bike. Of course, it is good to have a place like the Bike Project to help keep these bikes tuned up, as many of them did not come off the store shelves properly tuned. They tend to be more reliable than other department store brands.
