Chanel fragrances were made in collaboration with perfumers Jacques Polge, Ernest Beaux, Olivier Polge, Henri Robert and Christopher Sheldrake. He removed the perfume from drugstore shelves and invested millions of dollars in advertisement for Chanel cosmetics.

So she established a rival Swiss parfumerie to create, produce, and sell her “Chanel perfumes”. In turn, Wertheimer, the majority capital stock owner of Parfums Chanel, saw his business interests threatened, and his commercial rights infringed because he did not possess legally exclusive rights to the Chanel name. Nonetheless, despite the success of the Chanel couture and parfumerie, the personal relations between Coco and her capitalist partner deteriorated, because, Coco said that Pierre Wertheimer was exploiting her talents as a fashion designer and as a businesswoman. Wertheimer reminded Chanel that he had made her a very rich woman; and that his venture capital had funded Chanel’s productive expansion of the parfumerie which created the wealth they enjoyed, all from the success of No. 5 de Chanel. Business partners – late 1920sThe success of the No. 5 encouraged Coco Chanel to expand perfume sales beyond France and Europe and to develop other perfumes – for which she required investment capital, business acumen, and access to the North American market.

Countless iterations and imitations have followed, but the understated elegance of genifique‘s original number remains unmatched. The store also has tweed capes in warm hues reminiscent of the famous tapestries that line the walls of the castle. Floral motifs on knit sweater and dresses and floral embroideries on the lapels of jackets are inspired by the castle’s renowned gardens. Rounding out the offerings are textural and luxe accessories, such as a black velvet mini 2.55 handbag, embroidered with pearls and Strass; a checkerboard black and white lambskin 11.12, and a velvet and lambskin large shopper. In the shoe salon, a Curtis Jere gold mirror hangs above a custom designed tweed sofa by Peter Marino, creating a backdrop that highlights the latest shoe collections.
