Polo Ralph Lauren Men’s Clothing

Polo tried hard to add flankers, red, blue, that weird orange one. Keep producing just this in that vintage green bottle and I’ll be happy. I’m surprised how little I want to use but it’s because I need to keep this bottle for the rest of my life. This is definitely a barbershop type fragrance; I’ve used Polo Ralph Lauren t shirt aftershaves which smelled very similar. It’s quite nice, but it’s not my favourite of this genre, or at this price point, so I’m not likely to get a full bottle unless I come across one at a yard sale or for pennies online. I wonder if some of the older formulations would have impressed me more.

Hopefully, it will stay around for a long, long time. Workplaces and society in general are less tolerant of fragrances than they used to be. It has impacted Polo’s wearability in 2019, and you don’t smell it as much as you used to. Supposedly, it’s been reformulated to reflect this and I’ve read that a lot of men prefer the vintage Cosmair formula to today’s version.

This said, I would never ever wear this. I can’t imagine any occasion that would be suitable for it and it smells way too outdated. The dark grey suit and lace-up leather shoes come next with the tortoise-shell rimmed glasses and that handsome mustache neatly polo dress shirts trimmed. This fragrance is fresh, grassy and pleasant, but I can’t go out smelling as immaculate as, uhm, the Virgin Mary. If my nose had no association with that, I would have loved this for everyday use. It has a great longevity and good sillage.

Real man’s scent and defo not like the blue scents. The first time was 16 years old stealing a sniff from dad’s bottle and recalling it was extremely strong and pungent. 30 years later finally acquired a bottle of my own and it smells different than my memory. Light pine, light tobacco, light oakmoss, light leather, Chypre style.

But it is definitely a very formal scent. I wouldn’t recommend for every day use. No brand captures all-American flair quite like Polo Ralph Lauren. Established in the late ’60s, the original men’s line perfected preppy style by transforming Ivy League and country club wear into everyday apparel that promised simple sophistication. Representing a true Americana personage, the lifestyle brand continues to deliver cult-classic designs, including the polo player and bear motifs, which seamlessly adapt to each passing cultural obsession. Whether by way of clean-cut oxford shirts, staple t-shirts, or classic baseball caps, unfussy statements continue to be vital facets of the label’s identity.

Initially it’s a blast of pine, but that passes quickly, and then it’s straight up tobacco (to my nose, the wife says “pine”). I didn’t care for it at first, but with each successive wear, it’s wearing me down. I now find it intriguing and want to get to know it better. One spritz of this to the neck/chest lasts for a very long time.

It is such a waste of presenting dignified and mature character. You want to appear well-dressed as well as being up-to-date. Being up-to-date means wearing new product offerings. Each season, styles, colors, cuts and even fabrics change. All too often, in the summer, I witness men wearing faded-out and stained polo shirts and shorts.

A couple of hours after application the smell just gets better and better. Fresh, clean, spicy, classy and luxurious. It seems like there will be no performance issues with my item. I never used the vintage formula but I am more than impressed with the June 2018 product. I was able to smell it on my arm still 8 hours later which is more than satisfactory.
