The Luxury Products reformulation is the current formulation being sold today, needless to say it is the inferior of the 3. You need to be an old school manly man to wear this. I actually find the smell offensive, and I don’t like it, which is exactly the desired effect I think. It bursts my millennial safe space bubble for sure. The strongest note here for me is tobacco, and the performance is decent.
I think men who have a strong natural smell to their person are better off with a fresher fragrance to wear. But where Polo shines is in longevity and projection. It lasts 4-6 hours on my skin with 2-3 sprays, and 8-10 hours with 5-6 sprays. Projection is at least arms length throughout.It even has lasted 2 days on fabric. Putting on my quarter zip sweatshirt 2 days after I had taken it off I was immensely surprised to smell the PERFECT dry down of Polo.
I never used the vintage formula but I am more than impressed with the June 2018 product. I was able to smell it on my polo dress shirts arm still 8 hours later which is more than satisfactory. Herbal tobacco with some leather and a some fresh fruitiness.
My Vintage bottle arrived today, what a fantastic scent, so happy I found it. This is for those who may want a wearable version of the original, but mostly for those who seek the nostalgia and memories associated with the scent. To me, this is more spring and fall oriented.
I find echoes of Polo in Tom Ford’s Patchouli Absolu, but the notes are entirely different. Even so, no surprise that the latter is now my go to scent on the basis that it is redolent of that lush green intoxicating Polo of my youth. I think this fragrance is genius, and, smelled without any period associations, is an amazing, unique smell. Conifers and forests, Scottish heather and golf courses.
Nothing skanky, just very appealing to me. Great longevity and sillage in the old version. I will being exploring the new version to see how it compares and if it holds up well in reformulation, it will be my next FB.
