Giant Tcr

Somewhat surprisingly for a company with Giant’s resources, though, the same fork rake is still shared across the entire size range. In terms of absolute stiffness, the new TCR frame loses a slight bit of ground over its predecessor, although given where that bike already was, that’s not much of a criticism. According to Giant, the old bike posted a bottom bracket deflection of 71.09 N/mm, while the new one measures 70.96 N/mm.

Giant says it did this because cables in the head tube can be headache when packing and unpacking the bike for travelling. I’d argue that an even bigger impediment to packing a bike is an integrated seatpost, as found on the TCR, but I guess that depends on your priorities. The most accurate way to determine any bike’s weight is to have your local giant mountain dealer weigh it for you. Many brands strive to list the lowest possible weight, but in reality weight can vary based on size, finish, hardware and accessories. All our bikes are designed for best-in-class weight and ride quality. As with the current TCR range, the new version will be split into three tiers, all with carbon fiber frames.

Better production techniques result in affordable prices for customers, while constant technological innovation has injected competitive performance into every line of bikes from road to mountain to urban to e-bikes. The new Giant SLR WheelSystems, SLR 1 and SLR 2 are included in the 2021 TCR range. With this hookless rim technology, the wheel can achieve a wider inner rim diameter so a 23c tire will have the same volume as a 25c tire on a traditional hooked rim. The new TCR frameset is made with Giant’s professional grade raw carbon, which contains impact resistant nanotube technology. For the first time the company is using a new robotic assembly process and laser cutting for ultra-precise material cuts which it says will result in a lighter overall weight of the finished structure. Giant touts the new TCR as a general racing bike and, though it makes some modest claims about its aerodynamics, is quick to point out that it’s not an aero race bike.

The TCR Advanced delivers on all three, making it a versatile performer for competitive road riders. The Advanced-grade composite frame manages to shave every gram possible, while retaining pedal-stomping stiffness. The OverDrive steerer system and MegaDrive downtube are engineered for the precise handling so you can rail corners at speed.

In terms of the actual cycling, it feels very stable, reliable and agile. The OverDrive on the front helps with that, enabling you to quickly change direction and move the bike from side to side. XS Size giant mountain Advance SL Disc 2021Giant does recommend the XS size for riders from 157cm to 169cm tall (5’2″ to 5’7″) The Top Tube is 520mm length. The oversized headset branded as “Overdrive 2” which is a 1 1/2” lower, 1 1/4” upper is definitely participating in the stiffness on the frame. Keep in mind Giant is the world biggest manufacturer of sports bicycle as it needs to keep its frame design it reach to general public to keep mass production effective. When jumping out of the saddle the frame hardly feels taxed; we have whipped the TCR as much as possible and it seems to yawn at any attempt to tame it. Giant’s current range of performance road bikes are designed to meet a broad range of rider preferences. Each category is distinguished by a select frame model to highlight the specific design considerations.

Even the tool for the TCR’s thru-axles is made from lightweight carbon. The Pro and Advanced models both share the same frame , constructed using 100 per cent Toray T700 fibres. Aside from the range-topping Advanced SL Disc machine shown here for the launch, Giant also has a second-tier Advanced Pro Disc range and a standard Advanced Disc range. Stiffness was tested by locking the rear dropouts down and then applying lateral force onto the fork, according to Giant. That’s a pretty impressive saving on what was already a very lightweight frame. Combined with this is a new carbon nanotube-infused resin – a microscopic polymer that acts like miniature buttresses to strengthen the layers of carbon composite and significantly improve impact resistance, according to Giant.

Giant hasn’t done that, going with a really impressive setup that helps the bike deliver a responsive performance from the off. The disc brake TCRs have room for 700C x 32mm now, although 25mm tyres are fitted as standard. Various other measurements have been revised so that stack and reach, measured from the bottom bracket, remain unaltered. Giant has changed things to keep them the same, if you know what I mean. Even here, though, the Advanced Pro’s seat tube and Variant composite seatpost feature truncated aerofoil tube shaping. Most obviously, the Advanced Pro has a seatpost that slots into the seat tube, whereas the Advanced SL has an integrated seatpost , while the seat stay yoke is slightly lower on the Advanced Pro.

Up to eight TCR Advanced Pro models will be offered, topped by the TCR Advanced 1 Disc Pro Compact (US$3,200) model that features a disc-brake Ultegra mechanical groupset and aluminum Giant PR-2 disc-brake clincher wheels. For riders on a tighter budget, there’s the TCR Advanced 3 Disc at the opposite end of the pricing spectrum (which won’t be brought into the US, but is available in Australia for AU$3,299), built with a Shimano Tiagra groupset. Speaking of tire sizes, Giant has — of course — bumped up the maximum allowable widths on the new TCR.

The brakes are easy to modulate and offer security in every situation. On good roads without sidewinds, the steering is incredibly precise and direct. This is where the bike shows its agile character, reacting immediately to every steering input.
