On top of all of that, these models come with Casio’s standard 200m water resistance, shock resistance, and full range of digital watch functions like stopwatch, countdown timer and alarms. Another day, another Casioak, and back to the jelly goodness of the GA-2100SKE-7AER. It’s remarkable how these references, while identical, change personality with both context and activity, and what better sports watch than a G-Shock if, like me, you don’t fancy a huge Garmin. I’m a dad, so 60-mile rides are not possible, it’s a case of exhausting yourself on mile hard sprint runs to make it back for dinner. The clear Casioak sits super-light on the wrist, and while the mobile is stuck in my back pocket for Strava to record my futile attempts at an early season personal best, the easy legibility of the monochrome dial is a delight. Once home, you can click off the strap in one minute if you want to give it a thorough rinse after that sweaty ride.
But the so called CasiOak takes it a step further, blending not just the dial but it’s associated furniture into the same hunk of red plastic. Also critical to the enjoyment of the case is a relatively new technology now making its way into G-Shocks of all kinds, the Carbon Core Guard. Basically, this is a thin layer of strong and light carbon fiber that reinforces the traditional resin case.
The products of that union, Lahm and Lahmu, “the muddy ones”, were titles given to the gate keepers of the E-Abzu temple of Enki in Eridu, the first Sumerian city. The reason for this, I think, is that the top and bottom of the watch are significantly more narrow than the wide middle section. The watch feels small g shock watch at the most sensitive parts of the wrist, but expands in its mid-section. It’s similar to wearing an oval watch, like a Patek Philippe Ellipse.

Not a small watch by any means, but it’s also significantly smaller than many popular G-Shocks, which measure closer to 50mm and have unusual geometry that can make them a tough wear. The GA-2100, on the other hand, with its octagonal shape, is easy and comfortable to wear, even for long periods of time.
The Sumerians were great creators, nothing proving this more than their art. Sumerian artifacts show great detail and ornamentation, with fine semi-precious stones imported from other lands, such as lapis lazuli, marble, and diorite, and precious metals like hammered gold, incorporated into the design. The most widespread material in Sumer was clay, as a result many Sumerina objects are made of clay. Metals such as gold, silver, copper, and bronze, along with shells and gemstones, were used for the finest sculpture and inlays.
