There is a $30 shipping and handling fee on all bicycles. Orders may be available for pick up the same day as order submission or may take up to 10 business days to arrive; bikes shipped to your local retailer will need extra time to be assembled. Bring your order, with proof of purchase, to the local Authorized Giant retailer who assembled your bike. You may be eligible for a full refund of the purchase price, not including initial shipping and handling charges (S&H) plus any applicable tax, so long as any such bicycle is like-new and undamaged. I ride intermediate trails and some technical stuff with it.
I think it’s beyond stupid for bike manufacturers to be putting 32t chainrings on every single 1x bike they sell. I mean, sure, it means they’re only needing to stock one chainring size for assembly which reduces their cost, but that’s not the size that most riders are going giant KIDS BIKES to need. The wheels consist of Giant’s own brand GX03V rims and quick-release hubs and are shod in 2.2in Maxxis Ikon tyres. Tektro mechanical disc brakes are exclusive to this cheapest model. It features the same 6061 single-butted aluminium frame as the rest of the range.
Don’t need the 3×9 setup as I rarely get out of the 2nd chain ring. I recommend this for anyone who doesn’t have thousands to drop on a bike and is either a beginner or getting back into mtb. Shitty fork, Shitty, transmission, Shitty wheels, the bike can’t handle any format of technical trail without something breaking. The Maxxis branded Ardent Race MTB tires impressed us during the test ride. The 27.5”x 2.20” tires were heavily treaded with bulky buttons and covered the edges as well. These tires were fast rolling on flatter surfaces and could handle rough patches with ease.
I do agree that changing over to a 2x drivetrain will probably exceed $200 and add complication. If you don’t want to sacrifice top speed, then you’ll need a drivetrain with wider range. To get more range, I think you’d want a whole new drivetrain since I don’t believe there’s any 8 speed cassettes giant KIDS BIKES with greater range. As a newbie, I did not realize that I would lose so much on the hill climbing side of the equation. I am a 50 year old fit guy, but have no interest in racing or even going particularly fast, I just dont want to walk my bike up hills that I used to easily climb with the Trek.
As seen of giants website the talon 2 has 2×9 rear shifter. A review of ANY bike is flawed without mention of weight. A comparison over Talon would have been useful to find out how much weight saving would be achieved by spending more money. This review provides no more information than Giant’s own web site. In fact given a previous comment, it suggests inaccuracies.
Giant Talon 1, 2, and 3 are similar bikes, but they have some crucial differences when it comes to the components they carry. Orders may take 2-3 additional business days to be processed and shipped.
The quality I’ve experienced for the price point ($570)is spot on. No issues and it took all the abuse a newbie who has only finished 4 rides without a crash of some sort. I would defiantly recommend this bike to anyone starting out in the sport. It’s given me the bug and I’m sure it will last me many years. I would definitely recommend this bike as a beginner to intermediate choice with a fork upgrade.
These bikes feature a fork upgrade to the SR Suntour XCT 30 HLO which is still coil sprung but now includes a lockout. The drivetrain is bumped up to 2×8 through the use of Altus and Acera components and the tyres move to more aggressive 2.4in Maxxis Rekons. Another uncommon bonus is the tubeless-ready rims, an almost unheard-of feature for a $750 bike. The Maxxis Ikon tires, however, aren’t tubeless-compatible, so you’ll have to buy your own tires, valves, and sealant to make that upgrade. If you intend on spending a lot of time on the trails, going tubeless will greatly improve handling and traction and prevent you from flatting. The Giant Talon 29 2 is one of the best cheap mountain bikes we’ve tested.
Any number of bikes will work reasonably, but among this group, few if any will attain as high a performance-to-price ratio as Talon 1, Talon 2, and Talon 3. Giant has optimized the Talon frame geometry to produce a very comfortable and efficient ride. A low standover height will be appreciated by fledgling and more diminutive dirt riders, and mounts for two water bottles will give the option to ride without a hydration reservoir on your back. Talon models use a threaded bottom bracket – good news for garage bike mechanics who might want to perform crank maintenance work or swap out gearing.
Although Giant are a global company, the Talon is a bike that’s been designed specifically with British trail riders in mind. Inevitably, given the meteoric rise in popularity of bigger wheel sizes, there’s now a 29er option. Aspiring dirt riders now can tool up with a modern 27.5-inch-wheeled bike produced with leading technologies and the experience of one of the biggest mountain bike players on the planet – Giant. However, you can also go for the more capable 29″ wheels if you wish.
