Cuisinart Petite Gourmet Review
The Venture portable grill has 9,000 BTUs of power, a serviceable 154-square-inch grilling space and a wooden lid that doubles as a chopping board — genius. It also takes any standard propane vessel, including those small one-pound Coleman tanks you can find at hardware stores. The whole unit weighs just 25 pounds, making it extremely portable when compared with other small grills on the market. Macy’s will ship the Venture for free and in plenty of time to wrap it for Dad.
It’s reliable and easy to use, and its versatility is sweet. It can even be something in the middle if your unique grilling situation calls for it. In head-to-head tests, we preferred the Primus Kuchoma for its superior portability, but still appreciate the performance of the Petite Gourmet. The PG has a tiny little grease drip tray cuisinart soup maker that attaches to the bottom of the grill and is easy to take on and off. It does not leak grease when in the standing position and when cleaned regularly, though it could overflow if you do not clean it often enough. If transporting or storing the PG on its back with the handle up, make sure to remove and clean the tray first.
The dials are simple controls with lights that let you know they’re in use, but it cooks efficiently despite the lack of frills. We liked that we could open the Griddler flat to have two different cooking surfaces. If you order the Standard cuisinart pots and pans set Grill Bracket Set, and it doesn’t fit on easily, don’t scratch your railing. Call us and we can do an exchange for the Universal System. Expand your grill time and make every meal shine like a star by shopping this glowing gadget below.
Lower Build Quality – As with many portable grills, you trade off portability and affordability for cheaper construction. Low Heat – Because of its small burner, this grill struggles to reach high temperatures. You unquestionably can cook on it, but it will likely take longer than a full-size grill. If you are planning a tailgate or a camping trip, this grill would be a fine addition. Small but versatile – Although it may seem that this little fella is too small, don’t let that fool you. What it lacks in size, it makes up for in other great features.
At twice the price of the standard Griddler, the Elite is more of an investment, so it’s only worthwhile if those extra features are must-haves. With a temperature range of about 500°F to 700°F, 3-in-1 runs hotter than most gas grills. That’s OK with us because there’s no substitute for intense searing heat, and 700°F is a steakhouse temp. On the low end, you can get below 500°F by using a 2-zone set-up and placing the food over the unheated side. Read more about the advantages of 2-zone cooking here.
