The plates are removable, and we washed by hand and in the dishwasher and got good results both ways. It just comes with two plates, they are reversible, grill on one side, griddle on the other. They sell waffle plates as well, but they cost almost as much as the grill did, so we didn’t buy them.

While the five separate cooking options allow the Cuisinart Griddler to cook a wider range of foods, the Hamilton Beach is more of a grilling specialist. The reversible cooking plates with dual surfaces and floating cover give the Cuisinart Griddler great flexibility, making it suitable to use at any meal – breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The cooking plates are constructed of nonstick coated, die-cast aluminum that fit in either the top or bottom housing units.
