When it dries down it evolves into elegant leather that’s still infused with green. Very masculine and, now, it’s great value. Make no mistake, this is a real gem. I remember seeing the bottle as a kid thinking that that’s what men’s cologne looks like. Even though I own multiple versions of Polo throughout it’s life cycle, I still choose the modern formula for my day to day wear. My Cosmair bottles are purely for nostalgia and for the collection.

If anything this cologne gets the most positive reaction from younger women out of all my colognes. Not exactly “sexy” positive, but “unique” positive, in a good way. All you need is the ’78 Firebird and to unbutton your shirt polo dress shirts revealing a hairy chest to complete the picture. I will most likely give an update in the future, maybe on 6 months when I’ve got a more solid opinion, but I have a feeling I’m only going to like this fragrance more.
I can see this as a year round fragrance, but probably best suited to the cooler type of weather, especially spring, where it reminds me of a crisp, spring morning, with dew still on the grass. This is like walking through a cool pine forest. This is a love from me and I believe that if you love greenness, nature and green, spicy, herbal, grassy fragrances generally, then you will love this. Definitely one to try and wear first. Still a great and unique smell even today.
I find echoes of Polo in Tom Ford’s Patchouli Absolu, but the notes are entirely different. Even so, no surprise that the latter is now my go to scent on the basis that it is redolent of that lush green intoxicating Polo of my youth. Pino Silvestre is an ancestor as their both “pine” scents.
It’s really powerful, I tested 4 different fragrances on different areas today and I can only smell Polo , I wish I didn’t bought the 240ml bottle, I’ll have enough for at least 3 lifetimes. I think if you are over 30 this is great, in my case it definitely gives me a good throwback in my childhood when I spray it. I’m not sure what the perfumer originally intended to evoke with this scent but in the light of typical colognes these days I smell a pipe smoking hairy lumberjack. Not a pansy rich polo player with palm olive hands. Kinda makes me wish I was in high school in the early 80s when this was a normal everyday scent.
Neutered is not too strong of a word. I got my 118 ml bottle at a discounted price of less than $60 (normal price is $100) which is a huge bargain for this type of quality fragrance. I will gladly repurchase in the future. A couple of hours after application the smell just gets better and better. Fresh, clean, spicy, classy and luxurious. It seems like there will be no performance issues with my item.
