I suppose Polo is a true classic as it doesn’t smell dated or out of place to me compared to others that were released around this time. It’s a bold, very masculine scent. It’s in the same vein as Quorum but comes off more classy and refined to me.
It lasts 4-6 hours on my skin with 2-3 sprays, and 8-10 hours with 5-6 sprays. Projection is at least arms length throughout. It even has lasted 2 days on fabric. Putting on my quarter zip sweatshirt 2 days after I had taken it off I was immensely surprised to smell the PERFECT dry down of Polo. If there was 1 scent that I would want to smell like, regardless of day, time, season or circumstance, it would be this one. ultra-hyper masculinity in a bottle. The handsome, fit, complete and versatile man.

This is a scent I’ve been wearing since the early 90s. The first fragrance I can remember. A scent I’ve known since childhood. The original powerhouse formulation would fill the whole room.

For me, this is an easy fragrance to love. It’s deep green and herbal, a kind of spicy chypre. It smells like nature, very much like a forest (I’m not sure if the intention here was to evoke a polo playing field or meadow). This is the kind of fragrance that they don’t make now (unless it’s niche).
I much prefer Encre Noire by Lalique for example, when it comes to forest-smelling colognes. I never knew anybody in my background who wore Polo. My only childhood association was a teacher who reminisced that men splashed polo dress shirts it on at the gym. I became acquainted with it when I began selling fragrances at a department store and let me tell you, I sold a lot of Polo. We called it Polo green and when we broke a bottle the whole store knew.
I just bought a bottle a week ago and it’s now my go-to fragrance every morning. I’ve received so many compliments, I think this would be an office or school safe fragrance. I love it but you have to be in the right mood and the right state of mind for this, a old school swagger. It defiantly has a wisened gentlemanly feel too it. Like a old library or cigar bar or antique store kind of vibe. Heavy on the pine needles, and a almost burnt out, tar like campfire smell.
I quite enjoyed it—and man has it changed too— but it took a backseat to Polo Green. I wore Polo for about 20 years but it just kept going polo dress shirts through reformulations and it is now a watered down, quality stripped shell of the original. It’s Polo, but a cheap imitation of it.
