I only wear this around the house occasionally in the fall and winter months because I love the smell. This is my wife’s favorite of all my fragrances and will always have a place in my collection. Polo jeans clothing often features a logo of a polo player on a horse. The signature polo shirt has the logo sewn in varying sizes and contrasting colors while other, more formal pieces like the cashmere sweater may have the logo on a tag or in a more discrete location. Polo is also associated with classic, timeless styles and clean lines in clothing silhouettes. Pine and fir with strong notes of tobacco in a very masculine way.
It’s a masterpiece, I love this scent. First time I wore this fragrance about 30 years ago. It opens with green strong notes after 3 hours, it changes like leather and dry tobacco. The bottle I have is recent and superb. Let me put it this way, if it is reformulated just think of it as a new perfume and it would stand head and shoulders above any new release or any of the new Tom Ford Fougeres. I keep it because I love the bottle and the memories, but I wouldn’t (and couldn’t) wear it anymore. The dry-down maintains the green, woody vibe, and the patchouli, oakmoss, vetiver, leather and tobacco keep it dark and mature.
Not sure about the performance, though — seems to morph into a skin scent as fast as the two aforementioned classics nowadays. I started wearing this amazing scent in college in the early 80’s. It was my only fragrance for 30 years. I have gone through so many bottles, I have lost count. The Warner bottles were the best fragrance ever made.
I just never really have a good chance to wear it, and can’t think of any good situations that Polo would fit. Even though I own multiple versions of Polo throughout it’s life cycle, I still choose the modern formula for my day to day wear. My Cosmair bottles are purely for nostalgia and for the collection. And yes, it’s still absolutely outstanding. Besides it still holding my number one spot for classic male frags, this bottle remains undefeated. Simple, dignified, and to the point.
Somehow it smells substantial and dignified, but not in a lax way. The activity is there, but it is rooted. This is for a man who is clean shaven and dresses smart, but isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty — in a word, your archetypal 70’s New York detective.
I thought this might be one of those frags that I would take some time to enjoy, but I actually love this one on my initial testing. I haven’t worn it, but usually on skin, fragrances are even better so I’m gonna go ahead and say that I love it. Very masculine and, now, it’s great value. Make no mistake, this is a real gem. It is one of my favorites, and what I think of when I heard the term cologne.
