I highly recommend it specially if you going to use it in a gaming rig. Margaret T Son would like to buy a bigger internal drive for his laptop. Brand name and sales price are the 2 main reasons I purchased this drive.
Testing is done within VMware ESXi 6.5 with a 20GB test footprint, comprised of two 10GB vdisks that are placed onto a datastore presented off the SSD under load. The test platform leveraged in these tests is aDell PowerEdge R740xdserver. We measure performance through a Dell gtx 1080 8gb H730P RAID card inside this server, although with the card set in HBA mode only to disable the impact of RAID card cache. The methodology used better reflects end-user workflow with the consistency, scalability and flexibility testing within virtualized server offers.
The new model also represents a nice improvement compared to the 860 Evo, with Samsung promising roughly 38 percent better random read speeds and a 30 percent improvement in sustained performance. The 870 Evo also features a five-year warranty, which is good to see. Speeds are consistent, even under heavy workloads and multi-tasking allowing for faster file transfer. The 860 EVO performs at sequential read speeds up to 550 MB/s with Intelligent TurboWrite technology, and sequential write speeds up to 520 MB/s.
But, now with the 860 EVO, class-leading endurance is backed up with a factory warranty that covers the 860 EVO for up to 6x the endurance of the 850 EVO. This is one hell of an accomplishment over gtx 1090 the bandwidth limited SATA interface. Like we stated in our 860 Pro review, we didn’t think we would see another SATA-based EVO coming from Samsung, but we are glad to be wrong in this case.
Today we’re looking at the new 860 EVO to see how Samsung improved on the world’s best-selling SSD. We’ll compare it to the new lineup of scrappy competitors that spurred the company to finally bring a new series to market and see how it ranks among our list of best ssds. The Samsung Magician software failed to recognize the Samsung SSD! I had to use another file transfer program to clone the drive.
